paint/barrel

what am i looking for when it comes to paint/barrel match
should the ball stop in the barrel when pushed in by hand or roll through
or am i looking for slight friction(not in my pants) the first seven inches or so

Your looking to be able to place a ball in the barrel and being able to blow it through the barrel.

You don't want it to just roll through, and you don't want it to get stuck in the barrel when you try and blow it out.

Don't just try one ball from a batch of paint either, put a half dozen through it to allow for inconsistency in the batch.
