"Flag Hang Rule
The end of the game is signified by the flag hang. If the player that hangs the flag is checked and, in the opinion of the referee, is found to be marked, the other team will be awarded the flag hang points, regardless of how many live players are still on the field."

Justr seen this on ehte PA site, apologies if it has been discused before, but can someone explain the reasons for this rule change?

What was wrong with the way it was before/IS in the MS and NPPL? If a flag hanger is found to be hit, he is eliminated, if it is an ovbious hit he gets 1 4 1'd, and if he is the last player the other team get the win. Why does it need to be changed?

Under the new rule, if a team wins with 7 alive and the flag hanger is hit, the other team get the win, even though there will still be 5-6 players from the winning team alive

Whats the ratinale behind this?

Just remember to shoot under the start gate at him/her as they walk towards you ;).

Or pat them on the back - ball in hand...

Oh the power of the darkside

Rule change!!

Sam
The reason for the change is that this eventuallity was not covered by the PA rules, they dont do 1-4-1s up there.

We lost a game on the basis that the flag carrier and last player was hit and the other team still got the max!!

I agree that it does seem a bit harsh if there are 5-6 live players left.

but, if you're about to hang, just call a paint check, drop the flag if you happen to be hit.
Happened four times out of nine games last time for us.......... four players who "hadn't realised they were hit"

Don't know why I bother :)

Surely it's the marshalls fault for not calling them out when they did pick up a hit - then again, that's a whole new thread ;)

The thing to do is clear the field of the other team by shooting them all. Then before you even grab the flag, have a marshal or a team mate check you for hits. If clean, then run it in.

It's only been in use for one round (round 4), whilst I agree it isn't a perfect scenario I do think it has helped curb a bit of the 'rampant run-through with multiple hits' phenomenon that was becoming prevalent, that and far more pro-active reffing and the handing out of penalty points when deserved rather than letting people off.

However, whether it makes much difference in the long term remains to be seen.
