Got to say that from all the events in 2003 - the PA Cup gets my vote as the best of the lot.

Not only for the way the tournament was organised - but also for the manner in which Gillie and Hatts have gone about promoting our sport to the general public. The entire concept to have teams representing areas and cities inspired our team, on formation, to continue this message throughout the year.

Does it work ?? - We have had two articles in the Lincolnshire Echo (local newspaper) and two interviews on BBC Radio Lincolnshire - about the team and it's development. We are pushing to have all our results featured in the Sports Pages of the local paper - just like the other local "sports" teams. This has, in turn, given alot of business back to our main site sponsor Combat Zone Lincoln. We have also had interest from local business and the local county council in helping the team financially. Our playing tops were designed and produced by a Lincoln based Sports Clothing manufacturer who produces the Lincoln City football strips.

And just look at the response that we have had on the appearance of the Manc Union boys on "They think its all over" on BBC - this is a Sports Quiz program and firmly places paintball as a sport in the minds of the population - I even had people at the gym I go to coming up and asking me about the program - as they knew I managed a team !!!

Back to the P.A Cup itself - the whole event was a success from start to finish - I read and hear all the time about much higher profile events - how crap the marshalling is - how the lack of security results in kit being stolen etc. Well the P.A Cup 2003 had none of that - the security was brilliant - you had to wear your I.D card at all times - even when packing up after the finals - I was'nt allowed out of the players area without my pass - even though I had been going in and out all weekend and they recognised me on the gate.

The marshalling was second to none - "firm but fair" with any disputes quickly resolved on the field. Chronoing of guns on and off the field was good and the whole event ran to schedule.

The facilities for the players - with plenty of space and a proper covered area was excellent.

If you did'nt go - or felt that it was'nt worth travelling for - because you had an event up the road to go to - get your team booked in for 2004 !!!! You missed the event of the year - the only down side was the lack of support from the teams in the U.K - there should of been 60 teams playing - not 11 !!!!

Well done to everyone at PBUK and the Paintball Association for having the vision to move our sport on to the next level - not for personal gain but for the good of the sport.

See you in 2004,

Rich;)

Leicester Team

Good going Daz,

Are you going to be playing as leicester full time or just for P.A Events ??

Also - if you guys want to train anytime drop me a line.

I remember you from Notts Series 2003 a couple of weeks back.

Rich

Cheers m8, I was not at the Notts event so am not sure how they did, a bit of a scratch team but they enjoyed them selves.

Not sure if we will do all events as Leicester as I am kind of fond of "The Experiment", will have to see what the lads think when we get together next.

Always open to training offers so will keep intouch chap. Thanks for the offer.

I tried very hard to get the Guildford team together.

I had a team list but despite my tries to pull the team together and get full on commitment It was just not forth coming.

It was placed in between an M25 and Toulouse so many teams were playing and not able to give up the time and money

In the end I had to stop because of my moving house.

If this event is going to happen again then I will try again I even had a web company ready to make us a web site for nothing. ( I know its not much but)

The local paper did not want to know, companies were un responsive.

Hope fully with this event now done there will be a pack to show how succesful it was this year.

Well done to Gille and Hatts, 2 lovely people who are helping us move this sport in the right direction,

No matter how good the PA Cup was if you think that organising that bears any relation to organising The Campaign cup, then think again.

What you say may be true, but the 2K3 PA Cup was a small event compared to Campaign, and when it gets to the same size you will see that it's a lot harder work to make things run smoothly.

Note I'm in no way knocking the PA Cup and I intend to be in a team playing that tournament in 2004, i just do not believe your comparison is fair

Campaign Cup Comparisson ??

Sorry Warrior - I think you will find that I was'nt knocking any other tournaments - just echoing what teams constantly complain about at events - just happens that Campaign was amongst them - being such a promenent event with so many teams - it's hardly surprising really. I have heard plenty of good feedback too - unfortunately the negative is what everyone seems to focus on.

And to call the P.A Cup small is a little ill-informed - Hatts and Gillie had actually prepared an event for 60 teams. Everything was run as it would of been for this size of event - the only difference being that teams dropped out left right and centre - to only leave 11 supporting the event.

I believe the P.A Cup received more promotion than any other U.K tournament this year and it's effects have been far reaching - in terms of taking our sport forward i.e "They think it's all over" and the interest of William Hill Bookmakers and National Newspapers. Show me any other tournament this year that had that much coverage.

I truly believe that this concept for a tournament was "ground breaking" and has already been copied - see how many of the teams in the Central Paintball League are already representing their area or town !!!

I think that - regardless of size - the tournament would have run just as smoothly !!!

But that's only my view !!!

I would love to know what everyone else thinks !!

Rich;)

PA CUP

I just want to say, that putting it simply I agree with Rich from lincoln. Everything he said was spot on, and as a little footnote the comaraderie between teams was refreshing as everyone wanted to show the PA cup for what it is truly about, the turney reminded me of the FA cup, small to begin with but after that everyone wants to be in it. I look forward to playing against Lincoln next year, and meeting Richard in the Middle.

(Yes Hatts, I know I made a wrong assumption but when you look at your PM's you would see I support you guys totally.)

Take care all, and thanks Hatts and Gillie.

Oh and by the way, this tournament is europe famous as my GF in Belgium wants a copy of PBUK to learn about the sport.
