i'm in the process of changing over to air, any hints tips or links on filling and using would be greatly appreciated

You can't get your air bottle filled to 4500psi?

Ok so a 300bar tank will fill to 4500psi, BUT only if the dive shop that fills it for you does 300bar fills. I'd suggest asking the shop what pressure of fill they are providing.

That's all I can think of right now.....what pressure is it actually filling to?

Is the 12l tank actually full? You can't get more pressure than is in the tank, so if it was only filled to 3000psi you won't get more than that out of it! Also, 300bar is only 4350psi. Lastly, a 12l tank will drop in pressure noticeably during just one fill. That's the downside of air filling - each fill will be at a lower pressure than the last, and you will only get a relatively small number of fills before the pressure in the fill tank drops too low to be much use. The smaller the fill tank, the worse this is.

they filled the tank yesterday when i bought it.

on the gun its at just over the 2000 mark.

a friend of mine said its a good idea to use 2 tanks. 1 for bulk filling and then use the other to top up.

Yep your friend is right, we use 2 large bottles for "first" fills and a baby bottle to top up with....as Rabies says the more big fills you take off the bottle, the lower the pressure in those bottles goes...so if you take smaller fills off two bottles then the pressure remains higher for longer....

Sounds like either they don't do 310 bar (Cheers rabies, I forgetted! :p ) fills at the place you use and also sounds like you got a hot fill (Not quite sure of the fluid dynamics about that one but it's where the air "settles" because of the way it was filled)

Still think you should check with the place that fills it as to the pressure they fill to...

Last time I was at SP their compressor only runs up to 3000psi, and depending on how fast they filled it the pressure would drop back a bit as it cools. And remember that the minigauges on paintball regs are often not very accurate.

Your best bet if you're not happy with the fill pressure is to phone around the dive shops in your area for one that has a 300bar compressor, and leave the tanks with them for an afternoon so they can fill them gently, so the pressure dropoff is lower.

If you can afford 2 tanks it makes the air you have go further, by keeping the pressure higher in one tank by only "topping up" from that one.
