One Book To Rule Them All

Bar World Cup in just under a week, the 2015 season is over.

As previously discussed, according to Laurent Hamet, the Millennium Series has been in discussion with the NXL to produce a single tournament rulebook, in time for the 2016 season.

This means whether you play CPPS or NXL, you will be using the same rules.

Though we may not hear much from the UKPSF, they are working away in the background as they always have, and I believe this will help them with their endeavours to have paintball recognized as a sport in the UK.

Of course, UWL will have a separate set of rules, and I think that the UWL will have quite a strong following in the UK in 2016.

I assume this rule book would include limits on paint consumption, do we really think that would stick with all the conflicts of interest in paintball? Also haven't rules been largely copy/paste for years now? Would a singular rulebook really make that much difference?

Assuming UWL goes to pastures new, I'll be entering a team for sure.

I believe that the new rulebook will be based on a limited paint format.

I know that not everyone is a fan of that approach, but I learned to play paintball at the limited paint tournaments that WDP put on at NTF and Kooh Doow, and I think that is the way to go.

I think GI, in conjunction with the MS & NXL, is going to force the change. A single rulebook is what the sport has been missing all these years.

And yes, you're right about the copy & paste!

But don't forget, besides the UWL you can also play the 7 Man Old School events that ECI put on, and the Warped 10 man. I've played them, and they are very good.

Yeah I know that the UWL isn't the only horse in town, I played the Warped 10 man and it was freakin awesome. But I would definitely like to see more frequent woods events at great locations that aren't run by a crook.

I think limited paint is perfect for XBall style arena ball. Sup'air isn't really for me any more but anything that can be done to make it more accessible would be ace. My concern is that the limit might be set so high so it makes little difference to normal players.

To be honest, the rules are pretty similar anyway, especially with the changes from PSP to NXL. The NXL has more rules on clothing than the Mills, i.e. baggyness of jerseys, lengths of tails from head wraps.
Slight differences in the major/ minor penalties over 1,2,3,4-for-1 will be interesting, depending on which way they go, as well as whether you are out when called, or out when a ref pulls you from the field. (something the american's use to their advantage in penalties).

Limited ammo rulings will be interesting, especially if the mills enforce it for all their games, and especially if that transcends down to the CPPS, SPL, NPL super 5's etc, and what that will do to paint prices will be even more interesting. Its similar to the government considering banning cigerettes. The less that is smoked, the less income you get from taxes. Same with paint and profits. I would expect paint prices to slowly rise next year because of this, as less is being shot, but they still want their money.

I wouldn't worry too much about paint prices. Don't forget, it's the regular joes going to customer sites that are the main focus of the paint companies, not us tournament players.

It is a very good idea ,that falls as soon as you try and tie 2,3day tournies in 2 different countries to 1 day tournies with different paint rules ,leagues . GI owning everything is probably the only way you will achieve a standard .Although this is dictatorship,the industry has dropped the ball for decades,failing to agree owing to greed and self interest.At least in a dictatorship the trains run on time .If ever this was actually achieved ,someone will just set up another series.

If someone wants to run a 1 day event with different rules, that's fine. That's the nature of paintball, you can play magfed, supair or woodland if you like, it's up to you.

Anyway, WDP ran the Atlantic Star & Forest National events back in the day. They were limited paint 1 day events, and were always packed out. The top teams of the day would attend, too - Preds, Banzai, Shades...

But if the single rulebook is released, any team that wants to compete in the NXL or MS will play events at CPPS, because the bigger domestic tournament series will follow suit and adopt the single rulebook.

As for setting up another series.....I think there are enough events on the calender already, and at least one organiser is struggling to get teams to play theirs.

Would field sizes be made the same too, I'm fairly sure NXL fields are slightly longer and wider than Mills layouts?
