well... me and a few mates went to a local(ish) site as a leaving do for one of us (good riddance) i have heard rumours about this chain of sites, but have never had any first hand experience with the SITES, just the ticket sellers, and customers turning up at my place of work, after being directed there, after paying to play at another site....
anyway... roll on 9.15 when we were permitted to come 'on site' we payed a walk on fee of £5 (i could've sworn we we're supposed to pay another fiver) which was VERY reasonable as far as i was concerned. there were 11 of us, and we came with the attitude of a group who had not played before... which, unfortunately included leaving our goggles at home. that was a mistake... after sifting through a fishnet of dirty JT headshields (not the spectra kind) i grabbed the cleanest mask i could find, a battlepack (NO chance at finding a clean one of THOSE), and a set of clean coveralls.
upon further inspection of mine, and my comrade's masks, i found 6 out of the 11 to have the distinguish cracks above the nose piece. upon questioning the marshal, and being fed the BS of 'its a vent' we went back to the fishnet and found masks without cracks.
I couldnt care that there was no foam on mine, or the fact that my mate's was strapless, as two in our group had brought there own masks with us, thus breaking the whole 'punter' ruitine for a safer method. so we sorted out that we all had masks with foam and decent lens.
I was also under the impression that it was a requirement for a site to have a chronograph? i was a bit suspicious when the marshal said HE checked all the 'guns' in the morning and found them to be firing at 100 MPH. 100 MPH is about 146 foot per second.
also, on the note of the guns, a VERY impressive, and cunning way of making the customers buy more paint was in action. not one of the guns we used had anti-double-balls / detents. three shot bursts with one trigger pull was a common occurrence in game. i was wondering why we were being asked to hold the guns pointing up whilst walking to the games...
i do have to say, the manager of the site seemed a down to earth decent block. i beleive them to be understaffed though three staff for 25 players,, and only two of them going to the arena's with us does not seem very professional, imo. the prices were reasonable, the paint wasnt that bad either. and the arena's were very nice indeed.
Do sites usually give out clean goggles and packs? and goggles without faulty lenses? or have i been blessed with finding National Paintball Fields to be my local site and workplace?
edit: essentially a plug for NPF...be open about it.
