How many times can a person say that they are a part of paintball history? William Shatner played his first official big game of paintball on August 31st 2002. In association with this even Action Markers, Inc. produced the William Shatner Commemorative Illusion. Also, to enhance this special event, Action Markers sponsored the "Use Your Illusion" challenge the previous day, and awarded the winning team 5 of the Shatner Commemorative Illusions. How many teams can say that they just won over $17,000 in prizes for a first place finish?
The nostalgia associated with this event will be the start of something very special for the sport of paintball. A marker so tied into the event that's taking place, that William Shatner said that he will be placing the marker on his wall at home to remember the special day of playing paintball.
The limited edition William Shatner pump marker by Action Markers has taken the idea of a concept marker to next level. Starting with an artists rendition on paper, it was then adapted, by the artist and an engineer, to a computer drawing by 3D CAD/CAM software. By including the artist in the computer rendering of the marker, Action Markers guaranteed that the final product would remain true to the artist's vision. To finish off the marker, Action Markers then decided to gold plate the marker and add high chrome accents. .
So, why are the markers worth so much? Beyond the quality of the workmanship and plating, the markers also are truly collectable items. Each has William Shatner's signature machined directly into the body of the marker. Each marker also comes with a certificate of authenticity which were hand signed by William Shatner himself directly following the big game. One 24k gold Shatner Commemorative Illusion was auctioned off for $3500 to an individual at the close of the Shatner's Spplat Attack.
When William Shatner gets up in front of hundreds of players and a television crew to say that this limited edition pump marker is going straight home and on his wall because it has sentimental value, then
you know that this truly was a special event. For those individuals who will be lucky enough to get their hands on the few remaining special edition markers, their names will have a place in paintball history right next to William Shatner's name.
