NXL on ESPN2....

I'd give it a C+

Not gonna light the non-paintball world on fire, IMO. The problem is paintball produced for TV is gonna suffer until the peeps taking the pictures and the director running the production have a better understanding of the game. Beyond that the talking heads need to be, how do I say this?--not annoying. And better, at this early stage, to be informative as opposed to trying so damn hard to be entertaining. Not enough information, no connection to the action.
Even so, gotta hope there's and Act 2, etc.

I just got this from Smacktalk. I wonder if it is all bull****?

Rumor Mill!!!

After the semi-decent ratings of the Strange vs Americans game on ESPN2. Dick Clark has agreed to sign a 2006 contract filming ALL NXL league games and putting them on ESPN2!!!

Nemacolin Woods Resort has purchased an NXL franchise. Guess who? Pennsylvania Avalanche anyone?

Nemacolin Woods isn't the only huge sponsor to purchase a franchise. A huge invention/patent company which has been investing in the NXL has also put an extra 250,000 to use. What team do you ask? Texas Storm.

San Diego Legacy headlines have been hot on the charts for a while. Which heavy hitters did they pick up? Little John Marques, one of Oakland Assassins best players. Who else? Mike Paxson, arguably one of the best Chicago Aftershock players. Avalanche heavy hitter Dave Baines is also making the jump as well.

Kenny Rosenberg has a broken leg? Nope. It was all a fake! A conspiracy just for him to get cut from Legacy to jump out of a $6000 NXL Contract and have a huge spot on the triple crown champion Dynasty roster. Word on the street's he's been playing local tournaments guesting with Dynasty squads throughout the off-season. Let's put this rumor to rest.

Pete "Mr. U" Utschig quits New York Extreme. Why? Seems like hes building up a heavy hitter Div1 NPPL team to smash faces next season.

Infamous unveils their newest prodigy. Seems like they've recruited a youngin from Texas and have been training him thoroughly to become a straight up killing machine. Will we see this prodigy smashing fools in the 05 season? Time will only tell.

Oakland Assassins are out of the NXL.

Russian Legion's new sponsor? Everyone is waiting to know. It's not a new sponsor. Empire/NPS is unveiling a whole new Russian Legion line and providing the team with $1.5million worth of salary/equipment/paint for the 05 season. 1.5 million...I wonder how much the players will get?

Arsenal switching to Xball? Yup. Seems like Marcus Nielsen has been trying out a number of the HK Xball players and is looking to bring them to the Pro Arsenal squad for the 05 season. HK is falling apart day by day, and the young talent is dissipating to several professional teams.

Todd Martinez out for the whole 05 season. Dynasty is filling up their roster to take these empty spots.

Sedition news? Sedition are scouting out hot new players to build an even better pro team for 05 than this year. They had a breakout year coming in 4th at one of the events and surprising many people. Let's see how well they will do with their new 'power squads.'

LA Ironmen are screwed next season. All the young talent is gone. The roster is full of old people, what do you expect.

A new farm team for Baltimore Trauma is being created. Name is Gridlock, composed of team Ultimate and many other strong xball team players from around the east coast. They will be a strong div1 team with the practice and training they receive from Trauma.

I thought the show was very disapointing. The only reason I kept watching was because I had to witness to momentous occasion of some of my friends playing paintball on ESPN . If I was a non player I would have turned the channel after about 5 min. There was no "flow" to the game footage . The camera angles etc. made it hard to follow who was shooting who . The commentators were a little boring but that has almost always been the case for some reason. I am beginning to believe that paintball does not transfer to TV very well unless its a highlight clip such as Der Der. I guess we will have to wait and see how it does in the ratings. In my opinion it won't be picked up as a regular show but what do I know. I wouldn't have thought hot dog eating or scrabble would make good TV either.

We waited two years for that???? That was supposed to generate interest in paintball?

The announcers were horrible, did you know your lens crack when you are shot point blank? Well they told anyone watching that lens crack when shot close.

Did you notice the prolific use of pronouns "oh that guy shot that guy" WHA??? Some play by play.

Did they use hand held video cameras? I have Digital cable and an HD tv, that picture sucked... All you had to do was watch the hot dog eating contest that followed on espn2 and you can see the difference in production.

If you submitted that as a first year film student, you would fail that class. No plot, no timing just bad film, bad angles, bad announcing, bad everything.

Oh but they got paintball on TV, and proved that its not a TV sport. Way to go! So much for all the waxing intellectual on the this and other sites about the potential big bucks rolling in.

Poor Russians, and anyone else sucked into the psp lies. Two years for that?
Sad.

evil one summed it up for me. I could not have said it better.

"30 camera's!!!"

What was all that hoopla about? You could use 100 camera's if you have no imagination or vision of the correct way to please an audience it all means nothing.
It's a crying shame, but I can't say I am suprised. Baca Loco even gave it a C+! Where I come from that is a pass. There is no way this gets anything other than F for fail, if there was a 'Z' mark, I would give it that. It is now more difficult for anyone else to get the game on TV. ESPN have had 2 cracks at it, both with JB involved. Both the productions sucked. They will likely assume that Paintball does not translate for TV, and be reluctant to explore future possibilities.
The point is, getting on TV was only a 3rd of the battle, making it understandable and watchable, and making it repeatable, are the other 2 area's.
