NXL & DCP clarifications and updates

Tyger

Old School, New Tricks
I had the opportunity to talk to Mike Ratko a fe moments ago, and I thought I'd clear the air a touch about what's going on over there.

According to Ratko, The agreement with Dick Clark Productions is a development agrreement. No money has changed hands at all at this point. It hasn't been sold to DCP, NXL and DCP have agreed to work together to bring paintball to TV. The negotions are as such that there is no solid timeframe.

The concept is to "Develop the league as a major league sport." So the objective will be a regular games schedule showing live games. Not a post-production show, they want to make it like other major sports in tht it's live.

Ratko told me that the expected window could be as soon as 6-8 months to when we see this come to fruition. This doesn't mean it will run this fast, but it's possible that it could. Apparently, there is a huge "buzz" in Hollywood over this.

And plus, the teams currently playing the NXL will be the Pro teams playing on TV. Now if this means it's a closed shop or not, I don't know. I didn't ask if players would be chosen for looks over ability (as it's been hinted in some circles).

Excellent news...that should alleviate alot of the fears about the sport being portrayed in a nonsensical manner. Looks like DCP is going to make a legitimate go of it. I wouldn't look for anything to happen for another year or so...like everyone else is saying, 6-8 months is pretty quick...

Well done, Tyger!

Considering something from concept to your tv screen can take, sometimes, two to three years, six to eight months in Hollywood time is very fast...especially for something of this magnitude.

So - what are the consequences for Euro ball - and for the world of paintball in general, if the NXL DOES end up being live transmitted "Major League Paintball" ????
I've heard that the NPPL is working on their own version of the NXL that we'll most likely see at this years Miami Super 7.

Good work, Tyger! :D
