The longest and most successful season of the NatWest Southern Paintball League (NSPL 2006) has come to a close. Culminating in some really hard and aggressive action upon the muddy fields at Skirmish Bristol yesterday, the season wound up with a dramatic, enjoyable and nail-biting end.

At the top of Division 1, it literally came down to the last game of the season. Going in to Round 12, there were 65 points seperating Stealers Am and East Coast Irritant. Both teams were fighting hard in the final round and both had won all of their games by the time they met each other in the last game of the event. The bunkers were cleaned down and extra refs drafted on to the field in preperation of what was surely going to be a highly-strung and contentious game...

Stealers broke out super aggressive with two players in to the snake, but ECI tagged one of them on the way in, and quickly dispatched the other who played just a little too loosely showing that if you don't respect your oppositions skills enough, you'll soon get your loader blown away. Quickly taking advantage of Stealers loss of that important real estate, ECI filled the Snake and began to push hard. Stealers Am's back centre player then received a hit in the shoulder, and then his continued protests that the mark was bunker rub earnt his team a 1-4-1 penalty, and the game's outcome seemed inevitable. To Stealer's credit, they saw a few of ECIs players off the field before crumbling, but Irritant had played the game beautifully and took the win for first place at the event and first place overall in Division 1!

The official Rankings have now been updated and uploaded on to the www.nspl.co.uk web site. All of the divisional promotions and relegations are listed below. Congratulations to all those teams earning promotion - I will be contacting you shortly.

East Coast Irritant Press Release – 19th November 2006

The dust has finally settled after the final leg of the 2006 Natwest Southern Paintball League (NSPL) and East Coast Irritant (ECI) have come away winning both the event and the NSPL Division 1 series title.

The 2006 series has seen the NSPL go from strength to strength, providing a competitive and well run tournament series that the south of England can be proud of. Competition across all divisions has been strong with Division 1 pitting ECI against tough teams such as the SC Stealers, SC Quake, London Tigers AM and especially their season long rivals - SC Stealers AM.

2006 has not been an easy year for ECI, as they went into the first NSPL event with only five regular players. The rest of the year saw the team gradually solidify the roster and implement a drills-based training regime. Something that so many UK teams like to procrastinate over but seldom work through to see the results.

ECI have been helped along the way by excellent quality supplies from LT Paintball throughout the whole of 2006. LT have supplied quality training and tournament paint month on month. Planet Eclipse supplied ECI with 05 Egos at the end of 2005 and the team has continue to use them throughout this winning season. All this is nothing without a training venue however, and the facilities and teams at Dave Stewarts's Dartford 7's site have been pivotal in helping ECI achieve their goals.

There are also a number of individuals that ECI owe thanks to. These include Chris “Syd” Pelling (Paintball Warehouse), Ray Ko (HL Concepts Photography), Neil (Heaven Paintball) and Ian Miller (PGi). “The team greatly appreciates the support of the individuals and companies that have helped us in any way this year,” explained team captain Dave Simpson. “Thanks also goes out to all those that have wished the team well throughout the year. The support and advice we've received has been invaluable, in particular I would like to acknowledge the influence that Mark Toye has had in shaping both ECI and myself ”

While winning the NSPL title has been an important event in the career of ECI, the team has higher goals still. 2007 will see ECI competing in the entire Millennium Series and partnering with Dye Precision Limited to use and promote their C7 range of products and shoot the DM7 marker.

Dave also commented “I would like to personally thank everyone who has donned the ECI shirt this year for pushing the team forward and winning the NSPL series. If I ever need to see motivation, heart or sheer determination, I have only to look to my players. With the support we've received from Dye and the roster we have, I am immensely proud and also enthusiastic to lead ECI into the 2007 Millennium Series.”

From all of us at XM7 I'd like to publically thank all of the team throughout this year who have worked hard to put the NSPL together and allowed us to play some really enjoyable paintball in a friendly and social environment.

I've also want to publically thank my team for all their hard work this year and believing that we could do it. Thanks fellas, pleasure to lead you boys on the field.

To the other teams thank you for your sportsmanship that has created a really enjoyable environment to come and play paintball in. Garffs, and the rest of Synapse, you were very kind with your words and very gracious. You and the team are the best example of sportsmanship, manners and not complaining, it's attitutes like that which paintball tournaments need and make the NSPL such a unique environment. If we can ever be of assistance please don't hesitate in contacting me.

Thanks to Phoenix paintball for the sponsorship they have offered us this year and the ZAP (420 and Chronic) paint we've been firing all season which has been amazingly consistant and utterly dependable.

Congrats to all the other teams who were promoted this year as well, big hand to Portsmouth Halloween especially for taking Div 3 so conclusively, well done lads.

Nice to meet the Angels on Sunday, good to have a giggle with you chaps/chappesses, hope to catch you next season.

See you all next year.

Just to add my voice to the posts above.

We like the guys on Cardiff XM7 earned promotion from Division 3 into Division 2 for next season.

Both my team and all the other teams from Divisions 3 & 4 have improved greatly as the season went on, showing that hard work very quickly can help players as individuals and as a settled squad gain the results required.

Portsmouth Halloween would like to thank its major sponsors for all the assistance shown throughout a long hard season.

Thanks to :

Oli and Claire of Halloween Paintball Gear.
All at Planet Eclipse for the superb 06 Ego's we all shoot.
Chris and Jon at LiPS for some of the best paint we have shot in years.
Sherriff at LT Paintball for anything and everything we needed at great prices.

Also a big thanks to some of our mates in teams like : Samurai, Weymouth Blitzkrieg, Worthing Demolition and all our fellow Halloween squads.

See you all in 2007.
