NPPL to introduce standardized playing surface

HB will introduce new turf playing surface. All the benefits of beach side play and profile with no mess, no grit, no slogging thru sand. Sounds like progress to me. Also, will assure uniform playing field dimensions throughout the season wherever the NPPL goes. Looking forward to checking 'em out in Tampa.

There is no truth to the rumor the gear manufacturers are subsidizing the turf purchase in expectation of skyrocketing sales of replacement pants and knee and elbow pads. Ok, I confess--I made all that last part up but it will be interesting to see just how "playable" the turf turns out to be.

It might also be possible to prep the surface under the turf to produce consistently level playing fields which would be a real bonus too--and something the NXL could take a cue from.

Is this that artificial turf with the little bits of rubber in it?

It looks like a very interesting playing surface, but like you I'm intrigued to see if it causes more friction burns etc.

Supposedly it is very nice to run and fall on if it is that stuff...

What you mean in America they don't have flat swathes of luscious green turf to play on? No wonder they like playing in Europe.

Do you mean that the NPPL is buying a load of astro turf and will stake it down where ever they go? Or do you mean proper turf... mud and grass and roots and things? Could be fun laying that, watering it, playing on it and trying to move it to another venue...

Stan, I see as a member of the Love your mentally challenged beyond the norm for average Brits so I won't take any offense at your transparent remarks that utterly fail to hide your obvious jealousy. :p  :D

At a guess its This kind of stuff.

Supposed to be a lot nicer to skin than normal water or sand astro (though to be fair there are a lot of things nicer to slide on than astro), though no doupt a lot less pleasant than real turf.
