NPPL makes a stand!

Holy Cr*p

I just receieved this from the NPPL, looks like they just banned Dye jerseys!!

The NPPL Rules Committee has made the following rule change effective immediately concerning Padding in Jerseys.

Padding in Jerseys will be limited to elbows and forearms only. Such padding must follow the criteria listed below or an approved equal. The NPPL will no longer allow jerseys to be worn on the playing field that contain padding in the garment that does not follow the criteria set forth below.

---
9.09 Padding in Jerseys
Padding in jerseys will be limited to the forearm and elbow only. Padding size will be limited to 4” in over all width and extend from the wrist to 4” past the elbow. Padding Material will be limited to an ESTHERBASED OPEN CELL FOAM Backed with a NYLON TRICO at a maximum thickness of 3/16 or an APPROVED EQUAL

APPROVED EQUALS must be submitted to the rules committee and approved in writing from the NPPL to be considered Approved Equals. Samples may be sent to:

NPPL
Material Test
417 Main Street Suite 201
Huntington Beach, Ca 92648
(714) 536-9050

Materials will not be returned to sender.
---

The Ruling made and enforced in the NPPL Super 7 World Series 2004 Huntington Beach event was done so on a temporary basis to allow the Rules committee adequate time to properly address the issue of padding in jerseys. If you currently own a jersey that does not meet the criteria in Section 9.09, the jersey may be altered by having the padding removed.

Interesting stand to take, I thought it wouldn't be long coming.

So

Any wagers on how long it will take the Millennium and PSP to follow suit?

Personally I would rather see clothing and protection seperated. Clothing is one thing and protection is another. If you want protection built into clothing then why should you be able to wear protection as well? Nobody is allowed to wear two pairs of elbow pads (well, the rules dont allow you to anyway;) :D )

..the fact that you can't wear the padded dye jereseys w/o a shirt?!?! Is that the only difference?
Dye shirts fall foul of this rule (if they stick to it) so you can't wear them period.

Or you get the scissors out and get rid of the padding, wonder if they will allow that?

Well they are going to have to do something and soon ... the way that reads it has been put into place immediately.

It's only 5 weeks 'till event #2, and there are a few teams out there sponsored by DYE (are there any other jerseys effected by this change? I can't think of any off the top of my head) .... the question needs to be asked if the material in the padding conforms as well .... hopefully we'll see press releases from some of the manufacturers sooner as opposed to later.

I wouldn't want to take any money on those dates either...Millenium probably will fall in line due to the the very tenuious links and PSP, um let me think.....still thinking...um DYE is a series sponsor, 2005 maybe but more likely 2006. So perhaps we will see a sudden large amount of Proto shirts about as what will the DYE sponsored teams use for the NPPL events?

It definately is after Dye as no mention of shoulder padding being allowed, but then this did happen before and got overruled and since no other maker sells a shoulder padded paintball shirt (Motocross suppliers do, as do Football strip makers for the Goalies) but not paintballer suppliers. All in all it's going to be interesting...cue all the people with the same arguements as we heard before. Oh and before anyone pulls me up on the fact that currently I wear a DYE jersey...yes I do and only because I can/could, why do I wear a Dye jersey...why do you think, it's because of the grip for my tank and the protection for when I do a superman slide...yeah right
