What would be the interest for getting together some kind of modest mock-tournament with X-ball rules? And pretty quickly. I think some players have tasted a little blood and others are chomping at the bit to try it.

Location-wise, I say Nordic because I'm in Stockholm. Our dear brethren Nick, Goose and co. might agree that Copenhagen would be a good location for the Nordic teams and maybe for the North European as well.

Date: what could possibly work before the end of this year?

I'm thinking primarily of representative teams (doesn't necessarily have to be official) from:

Norway
Sweden
Finland
Denmark

perhaps also from:

England
Germany
Russia
France
Portugal
USA

or any other team from any other nation.

How about self-reffing? Teams rotate responsibility for reffing so that the on-field judging is always an international mix, under the supervision and leadership of an on-field ultimate.

We limit it to the first 8 paid registrations. And keep the costs as low as possible. Maybe for trophies only?

Just some ideas, any thoughts? Am I stoned or just stupid?

Then let's scale it down...

I agree that the cost of paintballs alone would make it very expensive. But what I'm talking about is a very serious practice. Wouldn't the paintball manufacturers who sponsor the teams see it as in their own interest for their sponsored teams to practice the X-ball format? (I wonder if the originally scheduled X-ball practice between Sweden and Russia after Joy Masters would have made a substantial difference, perhaps taught them the needed lessons about the pit crews and rotating players?)

Besides the supply of paintballs all we need is an airball field or a hyperball field. It doesn't have to be anything more than one full match between 2 - 4 teams, using X-ball rules, under simulated X-ball conditions.

I know this is wishful thinking but I want to see, play or somehow be involved with X-ball. And I don't want to wait another year!

Check it!

I dunno...

... it might be possible, but as I see it there are some obstacles to overcome.

1) It would have to be held over a 2 day weekend - teams would have to pay for hotels.

2) In order for it to be worthwhile I think we would have to play a 5 team round robin - that way each team would 4 games, 2 each day. After all we are just talking about a practice right? 4 teams I think would be a bitch because teams would end up playing 1 game one day and 2 the next - which is okay if you are playing 2 the second day, but it sucks if you are only playing 1 and then reffing.

3) You know as well as I do that up here in Scandinavia we are losing daylight fast - it's okay now but by the end of september (which is the earliest I can see something like this getting put together) it will be even darker. With each team playing 2 games a day we will need 12-16 hours of daylight (1 1/2 - 2 hours to complete a full game with time outs etc.) - this could be done in the summer but not in the fall.

4) Who will pay for the paint?

Now, not to put a damper on things - because I do like the idea doing something before next year - 3 teams over 2 days might be do-able, each plays 1 game each day - but now it's about finding teams willing to make the trip for so little "play time"

Obstacles are opportunities.

Probably scheduling is the biggest problem, unless we could get a decent playing field/court indoors.

True.

2) In order for it to be worthwhile I think we would have to play a 5 team round robin - that way each team would 4 games, 2 each day. After all we are just talking about a practice right? 4 teams I think would be a bitch because teams would end up playing 1 game one day and 2 the next - which is okay if you are playing 2 the second day, but it sucks if you are only playing 1 and then reffing

Good that you worked that out. But it could also work for just two teams to play maybe three matches during one day. We could use volunteers for refs. Would it be feasible to have three teams play a couple of games each with one full team available for reffing at all times? (I'm not taking time to think through the whole thing yet.) The whole point being to get familiar with the format not only as it concerns playing, but logistics and judging as well.

3) You know as well as I do that up here in Scandinavia we are losing daylight fast - it's okay now but by the end of september (which is the earliest I can see something like this getting put together) it will be even darker. As above, this is the hard nut to crack unless we could find a decent indoor venue. Might be possible here in Stockholm.

4) Who will pay for the paint?

This, of course, depends on levels of sponsorship. It's easy for me to say, but, the paint sponsor should support such a practice, right?

Let's keep this open. Maybe I'm beating a dead horse, maybe not.
