It's positions on a speedball field. Front's usually dive more, so are generally more padded on the forearm/overall...

In my opinion, it's just marketing blurb. A decent pair of pads will work the same for back and front players. The idea behind it is that back players don't need as much protection, so having less padding will give them more movement etc. the reality is that if the pads are good quality in the first place they won't restrict you at all.

I'm not a speedball player so can't comment too much on the specifics for that, but in general there are two types of padding in paintball.

There is the protection for crawling etc, but in addition there is the bounce effect.

With relation to the players position they are marketing different pads for players who may have different needs - I assume that a back player is further back and does not crawl as much, a front player needs to be agile and mobile, but could be diving onto their arms, crawling a lot and quickly and with more chance of being shot up close so can hope for a bit of extra softness for bounce / impact absorbtion.

Depending on how you play you may or may not need different forms of protection.
However make sure you do protect your elbows. A couple of years back I took up elbow protection properly for a very good reason - I grew one of these:

Being a snake player (front player) in a sup air team I find arm pads are a vital Part of my kit.... Diving into the snake head first on your elbows without them on is often a painful experience!

In terms of the marketing of the sly pads it seems that the front player pads have a little extra protection than the back pads which could help stop burn from the AstroTurf. However personally I use the eclipse overload pads and so does my snake back and I find they offer sufficient protection for sliding but also the 'bounce' protection and range of movement needed for a back player.
