Hi all,
Just joined the site, what a great forum! I'm looking to get myself a full kit setup as i'm keen to play Supair or similar paintball rather than woodsball. I've heard good things about the Proto SLG UL but wish to know whether this is a good price for a package or not? : http://www.store.justpaintball.co.uk/marker-gun-packages/proto-slg-ul-package.html

I would replace the mask straight off and I would hopefully buy pants and jersey cheap from these forums. Is this worth buying or could i do it cheaper via the forums? I'm not wanting to spend much over £350.

Thanks in advance!

personally I would buy second hand off the forum mate.

You save yourself loads compared to buying new and get alot better kit for your money.

Take a look through the for sale section, plenty up for grabs at the moment. ;)

I gotta agree with the post above, for £350 you could get a 2nd hand etek1 (better marker than an slg in most respects), new steelie/2nd hand fibre wrap, 2nd hand loader, 2nd hand mask, and maybe a 2nd hand pair of pants and jersey as well. If you had your heart set on an slg, the only other thing in that package deal that would even be worth buying on a budget would be the bottle, and even then it's only a steelie (great for starting up, but on the heavy side)

Thanks for the quick responses guys. Yeh i've been looking around a little more and set myself a budget. Looks like i can afford some of the higher end (slightly older) markers. I haven't seen many cheap air tanks mind? Could anyone link me?

Definitely try and buy second hand especially as you are starting out, then once you have played for a while you can start to upgrade everything to new equipment, that's how I am doing it anyway. You can pick up some great markers for excellent prices and get most of the kit you need from the forums too.

Are there any particular guns that i should avoid due to difficulty in future upgrades? Saw a reasonably priced Ego 05 earlier which looked sweet.

Dude, much as these guys are trying to get you a good deal you should seriously consider buying new, you get the manufacturers warranty and the support of the retailer too.

If you bought a marker with a host of leaks, it might be just a simple o-ring replacement, but would you know where to start?

Would you know what to look for in a second hand air system? Would you know if a potential bomb was safe to fill the first time you used it?

Would you know if the hopper you just bought needs new eyes or a board?

There are a lot of pitfalls for a new player, and I'm not saying there are bad traders on this site (there have been, but Bon has a well sharpened pitchfork and a flaming torch) and a lot of new players cause silly problems with their kit through their own inexperience.

Personally, I would recommend LiPS, see their section in the Site Supporters forum, give Jon or Chris a call on 01707 325007 and they will sort you out a package that suits your needs and your budget, and all the personal attention and backup you need. Of course any retailer should be able to do this, some are better than others.

We have run an SLG as a team spare for a year now, it has been a great little marker, not really had any issues at all, and the 09 UL SLG is even better.

Good luck whit whatever course you choose.

I'd go with what Onasilverbike said mate.

Go to Lips, grab a new UL SLG, a nice hopper like a Halo or Vlocity, a Dye Throttle or Pure Energy air system, and then swipe some nice second hand kit from off here.

Should do you just fine. :D

I've managed to sort myself out with a mix of new and second hand kit. Got hold of the new 09 SLG though :) Thanks for all the input folks
