whats your budget?

IMO i'd stick with popular markers within the UK as a first gun, Protos, Dyes, Dangerious Power G3's, Invert, Planet Eclipse.

Bob Longs ain't rares in the UK, its just going to be hard to get stuff within the UK for them like spare parts or a tech if you live in the middle of nowhere. my 2p

how much you looking at spending?
Also take into account how far you want to go paintball wise, do you just want your kit for walk-ons or do you want to dive into the world of 5-man and x-ball (both types of competition formats)

walk-ons for a start but a few friends are getting into it with me so may end up in tourneys/competition but not for a long time yet
cheers

I'm going to name some markers in about the £150 range

Invert Mini - Don't think these are going cheap anymore but if you can get your hands on one you'll never look back, will hold you on in good stead for a very long time Need very little upgrades.

Proto PMR - This will be the older versions from about 2006-2007, very good and reliable guns, will shoot well, and comfortable in the hands, very good customer from Proto if you have any worries.

Planet Eclipse Etek (the first ones about 2006) - awesome bang for your buck, extreamly easy to care for, even old timers shoot these because they make them smile.

I wish one of these would have been my starting guns :)

Even if you've got plans to play long term, I'd still suggest only going into it with a mid range marker, especially if you're just going to be playing walk ons for a few years before you go serious.

What's on offer now will be different to what will be available in a few years, so spending loads on a gun now will be a bit counterproductive when you start entering tounaments in a couple of years, as you'll be shooting outdated stuff. Not to mention alot of things change in a few short years, factors beyond your control.

So my two pence worth, and this is coming from someone who's starting out this year, is just to start basic until you have solid enough foundations to warrant spending alot on your gear. Spend the rest on playing time.

You can get some very good deals in the classifieds here. A good and easy maintenance second hand will be very easy to find, something like Eclipse etek 1/2 or an ego 05/06/07 or going into DMs and PMs. You'll be able to find something within a 200-300 price range and markers on here will almost always be very well looked after, depending on who you buy from.

Shimmershot's got good ideas, an Invert Mini would be a good starting gun.

I started with an 08 slg, and I'm kind of wishing i'd gone with something a bit higher up, but oh well
xD

Good Luck

Can I just say ego 05 This is the best gun and with in your budget. I have mine for yonks and it's still fully working. Also they are easy to set up so no worries about is my ramp set correctly etc. If I was you an 05 ego Total Standard. You don't want any upgrades as they they where the dogs nuts when they left the factorty.
