Hi.
Here in Sweden the hockey federation have started with somthing really cool for the playoffs.

Basicilly instead of letting the 1 ranked team in the playoffs playing against the 8th ranked team ( its 8 teams to the playoffs)
And the second ranked team play against the 7th etc they have done it abit different.

The first ranked team can choose witch team they want to play against. After that the second ranked team choose its opponent etc. Makes it important to get as good result as possible in the prelim and can actuelly stop teams from giving away "favors" to other when the are already in etc.

To ensure one of your teams gets through. Top 4 places are all anyone cares about... 5th or 8th, who cares?

To insure that one of your teams isn't?

But even if that were the case, I don't see that you really need to worry about it. Since elimination matches happen as "units" and don't stray over to each other, it's not like knocking your sister team out first round gets you an advantage against other opponents.

well basically. like Steve says, one of your teams is guaranteed to advancem, and if the softer teams have already been chosen, and what you have left is a couple of tough teams, and your sister team, then it makes sense to pick them, have them roll over, and hope some of the bigger fish got knocked out duelling each other. The alternative is to play a team yourselves and hope to win, while accepting your weaker sister team is likely to get knocked out by someone else. Despite the NPPL's best efforts I see the sister teams haveing a large part to play this season. Watch out for Ron K - that guy can work the slightest advantage to suit him. He will be the first to put his sister team to the sword.
