my body is funny shaped so I need kneepads that have a shin portion also (Dye's don't). As I move around, my pads tend to get pushed down and around, and the shin portion tends to rest on the tops of my feet and prevents the knee part from leaving my knees fully exposed (= no oweee's). If my kneepads rotate around, my knee then I get an oweee. Usually if a kneepad is tight enough to not move around, it hurts when I bend my knee and my circulation gets cut off (massive but short thighs) and tends to pinch the back of my knee.
I had some RASE kneepads that I liked but they didn't have velcro, so I was kinda stuck wearing them inbetween games unless I wanted to take my shoes off (means if I'm HOT, I stay hot...as in 100 degrees outside hot). I actually wore out the padding in the knee region so I sewed in some mousepad material (hey, it's very dense and cushiony) and it worked great...then I ran across those rubbery JT kneepads with the sliding plate action. They fit pretty well most of the time (enough for me to fork over $50+) but I had to trim the bottom edges 'cause they were made for someone taller than myself (it would push the bottom upper edges into my knee and make me sore there). Occasionally, if I'm really active I will get an oweee on my knee, but the JT's have had the best track record for me as far as protecting me, even though they look like catchers pads. They are kinda rubbery and they're great if the ground is wet (the cow piss doesn't soak into my knee area) but I don't know about bouncers...I don't usually get shot below the waist unless I'm bunkering someone (yes Seanette, I made you scream like a little girl
then Kristen lit me up).
As a related issue, everyone seems to like the Dye elbow pads...you can puff them up a little. For me, they tended to rotate when I hit the ground hard...I wore a hole in mine and I kept getting oweees in the same place 'til I switched back to my old JT sliders.
