Hi guys, im new to paintball so i was told by a friend that if i purchase an electric marker i cant use a standard gravity fed hopper or i will chop paint alot, is this true because theyre quite expensive.

Yes, it has eyes. These eyes will make your marker so it does not shoot unless a ball is in the chamber, so you don't chop paint. An electric hopper would make full use of your marker but is not essential, you will be fine with a gravity fed hopper.

I would advise getting a good electric hopper somewhere down the road but make sure it is a decent one. But you should have no problems using a gravity fed if it has eyes :)

It also depends on how fast you intend to be shooting... Gravity fed hoppers are limited to around 6-8 balls per second i believe, and also prone to a lot more jams so it develops a sort of "shake and bake" form of shooting :) If you're just going to be taking it easy and playing casual games, gravity will be ok but won't be entirely reliable.

Electric fed hoppers do (most of) the work for you, depending on how good the hopper is, and can churn out paint a LOT quicker and more efficiently. :) It all boils down to the level of paintball you're going to be playing buddy.
