Need some opinions...

I'm just getting into the game, have a Spyder TL with very few extras added in (I've added Dye Sticky 3, Shocktech Derlin bolt, and a different valve... forgot exactly what it was... think it was a magna valve). I just got a air tank with a Bulldog 3 preset (800psi), and now I'm looking for a good reg to go along with it. Have heard good things about the Palmers and such, but wanted to get feedback from people that have actually used them. I'm also looking to possibly change up the grip frame... any opinions/feedback on that would be appreciated as well.

And I know I should get a better marker, but I managed to get mine new for about $75, so I'm going to beat it up until I get used to working on it before I get something I'll feel bad about ruining.

My TL+, which recently became my backup, has a palmer's stabilizer on it and I love it to bits. The best thing about it is how it handles CO2, especially with an anti-syphon fitted. The reg itself will block pretty much any liquid that manages to get in, so if you can only get CO2 the stab will suit you perfectly.

Having siad that, it is pretty expensive and if you will only ever use HPA, it's potential might be going to waste. I do run my spyder with a preset and it is very consistent, but considering it's a backup I might have done better spending the cash on say, an ergo.

If you might have to use co2, definitely go for it.
If you have the money, go for it.
If you'd rather have some cash left for something else (like a grip), then you may want to reconsider.

the torpedo is a good reg for about $65.

I'd be careful how much added $$ you put into your spyder. Pretty soon you'll want something better and that will all be cash thrown down a rathole.

This is true, but fortunately an inline reg is pretty universal. Bolts, gripframes and valves are the things to be wary of, IMO.

I'd agree with you there. You know that you can get into some very good electro markers for prices that range from about $250 to $400......so spending $100 or $150 to upgrade a spyder is kind of a waste imo.

I have a female inline stabalizer on my cocker that I have been
useing for the past 8-9 years, absolutely perfect reg. I use the
reg for adjusting the velocity, havn't had to play with springs
since day one. This reg has proformed faultlessly in all that
time, and has yet to stripped and cleaned.

Palmer's are tough as hell, but as someone else pointed out, you are likely to get a different marker one day. Palmer makes about four different types of stabilizers, and one is ok for most any marker, while the other three are more suited to specific makes. Make sure if you go with the Palmer that you get the kind that screw into the asa, as that kind is suitable on pretty much any marker out there.

A regulator is like a N2 tank- getting better quality is always a good idea, because any marker you have will take it.

Hope that helps.

Searching for the pro-tour....:S
I had good results running an Air America vigilante on my inferno, both with C02 and air. Very consistent and reliable reg, goes straight into the ASA so easy to take with you when you upgrade.

Can also be modified with a different spring for low pressure operation.

However as the other guys have said, be very wary of what you spend on your first marker, you'll out grow it sooner than you think!!!
