Just to put my 2 pennies worth into the argument, women at paintball let alone playing is not the 'norm'. Most of the time when we men paintballers see a woman playing we just point and tell our friends. Most sports as a whole are almost gender specific, it is not the norm to see womens rugby or mens netball. Even in 'mixed' sex sports such as hockey men and women rarely compete on the same, even playing field. With our beloved sport of paintball we have a sport which can be played evenly and without predjudice by men and women (and all those in between (Mr Toye j/k)). I know in the past the whole idea of rental paintball has perhaps not interested women as much as men, but this is changing. More women than ever are playing paintball for the first time (just ask your local site operator), this is down to how paintball is perceived by the general public. With the advent of X-Fire and Operation Paintball people are now viewing our sport as another extreme and exciting sport, with more female rental customers the tournement scene is going to see the knock on effect of this as well.
The time has come to stop pointing fingers and whispering to your mates that there is a woman paintballer on the field. Paintball has a chance of becoming on of the only true non gender specific sports, we managed to lose the 'weekend warriors' tag so surely even this is possible. Those of you who know me are probably saying that I am only doing this because mt girlfriend plays paintball, this is not the case if anything I would prefer she didnt play at least I would get my kit back! Seriously though I have seen this first hand and if you are honest with yourself so have you. When you have actualy seen a woman playing paintball, how often have you seen her opposing team walk of the field taunting one of their players that they had been "shot out by a girl". I am sure everybody would be keen for the other 50% of the population to see this sport as non sexist and even game that can be played and enjoyed by both sexes.
