If only to throw us all into an even more frenzied state of confusion, here is another spanner to throw into the works......

Pure Promotions, those lovely people who brought the world, Huntington Beach and the NPPL series Stateside, recently had a meeting on the 15th floor of the Rockefeller building in Manhattan.

Impressive ?
It gets better........As the guys from Pure Promotions are chin-wagging with the Vice President of NBC, the President of NBC sticks his nose in the door and eventually joins in the conversations being held regarding Pure Promotion's paintball series and its proposed televisation....I can't say too much at the moment as I have had my lips superglued but suffice to say, interesting times are ahead....

But one thing that did emerge was, the guys from NBC stated that the only way to get this type sport on TV was to pay for it, in its initial phase.
They were not aware of any situation where production companies or anybody else for that matter in TV, would pay up front of a league type series.........makes ya think don't it ......

This NBC thing just doesn't sound nearly as promising as what you have reported to be happening with X-Ball.

X-Ball: Dick Clark's production company paid 'X' millions to buy the rights.

NPPL: NBC tells Pure Promotions they aren't willing to put any money behind them.

It almost sounds like the NPPL got shot down (at least for now) and X-Ball will be on TV within a year or two.

It might sound that way, but I wonder what Dick Clark is planning to do with XBall....

The number of things that get licensed/optioned/planned for future use in the entertainment industry is immense. Not doubting there's interest, just waiting to hear more about the deal before I get too excited.

The history of fringe sports that have appeared on TV isn't that great... Arenaball (the baskeball/trampoline game) anyone? How about Indoor football? World's Strongest Man? :p :p

Personally, I'm waiting to see what DC does with XBall. Maybe we get the XGames, or maybe we get American Gladiators... :D

Clark buys ideas, and resells them to the networks, NBC is a network, networks tend to be really shy about paying out for ideas unless they come through other people.

Alternatlivly clark may have chatted with NBC about paintball, after all talks and whatnot have been banded about for a while and NBC runs quite a few of Clarks productions. Maybe they consider Pure Promotions as a secondary idea if Clarks interpritation of Xball isnt to there liking.

To much guesswork, conjecture and hope. I'll wait for a press release or more info from a trusted source. Hmm.. We need to get Robbo's lips unglued..

It'll be X-fire and you know it :)

Emulsified.

Speaking from a viewpoint of someone who works in the media industry, the normal way that a sport such as paintball gets broadcast is that a company with a vested interest in said sport pays for the production costs. A recent example of this is the British quad bike championship that i worked on. The cost of the production (equipment, overheads, crew costs etc) were picked up by yamaha, one of the major manufacturers of racing quad bikes.

The other option is for a production company to cover its own costs initially with the view of selling the programme to a major network broadcaster. Now things in the UK and Europe are vastly different to those in the States. The independent broadcasters this side of the pond are tiny in comparison and have little spare money, while the broadcasters like Sky, The ITV Network, and others simply are unwilling to take any risks at the moment.

If we want paintball broadcast on television this side of the pond then the big compainies are gonna have to dig deep and take a gamble.
