Well, I figured I'd open up for a few tips on the big game to try to help out a bit. I'm not intimately familiar wiht the terrain, and I can't guarantee that this advice will hold at the location, but it's worht a try.
Volumes of paint : Quayler said he was envisioning getting coated like a bad "Dulux" job. There' a lot of paint flying aornd in the hot spots of a big game, but it's really not so terrible unless oyu do something fundamentally DUMB. Odds are you won't get torched as hard as you think.
Once you realise that in a 200 on 200 shootout that 100 people are actually shooting, and they're probably shooting at only 50 bunkers, and there's about 2-3 a bunker... Man you can move if you do it right. The key is to get cover shooting twords where you're going, make hte other guys duck, and move. DON'T HESITATE, MOVE! Once you commit to a move, don't second guess, GO FOR IT. Don't stop in mid-stride, unless you like getting pelted (Fundamentally DUMB thing...)
That being said, when you get hit (not IF, WHEN)you really do want to get the hell out of the way of the next string. It's not the ball with your name in it, it's the 50 behind it marked "Occupant". Yell "HIT!", put your gun up, get out of the main shooting area. Plug your gun AFTER you're out of the way. (If the game has specific actions / rules to follow, do it, but get out of the hot zone and you won't get hammered badly.)
Also, on your end of the trigger, a guy with his gun in the air is PROBABLY trying to get out of his bunker and leave the field. YOu got him, you can move on now.
Tactics : Big game tactics are a bit grander, so here' a few tips.
WATCH YOUR BACK! Unlike regular walk-on, the big game field is SO HUGE that a few people can slip behind you and take out a majority of your team. If you're in the back of the pack, look to your backside (Your 6, on the O-Clock scale). I should know, I've been on both sides of that scenario.
If you can get behind the other team, take as many down as fast as you can, or as QUIETLY as you can. If there's a surrender rule in effect, go surrender guys. My record is 15 in a minute surrendered. My best is walking up behind a friend I knew and asking him by name if he'd like to surrender.
Think grand and big. Do what oyu vcan as a GROUP. DO NOT SPINTER OFF if oyu can help it. What's better? 10 guys or 100 guys? Thought you'd see it my way. Keep your group TOGETHER and ORGANISED. How? A lot of yelling, a lot of rallying, and a lot of the hard sell of a line of BS. Even doing something dramatic (see above about Fundamentally Dumb...) can rally a whole team into a push.
If you ever fancied yourself a natural born leader, now is your chance to prove it. We do this at the Sam's game all the time. "OK! PUSH LEFT! PUSH LEFT!" or "BLUE IS RUNNING! TAKE THIER SPOTS AND SHOOT 'EM IN THE BACK!" or "HOLD! HOLD ON! NOW!" Use a good war cry that you know you've got. It's too bad you're all brits, or I'd suggest a "Rebel Yell". (US players from the south know what I'm talking about) GEt a few buddies together and herd your team where they need to go.
If you have 2-way radios, USE THEM. Stay off the ref channel, but radios are an invauable tool. If you don't have a radio, don't worry. You'll just need to organise a group the hard way.
STAY FOCUSED! Don't wander off to shoot guys if the flag staiton you are at is worth points. They'll find you, don't worry. LOTS of opportunity to shoot players. It goes back to that working in numbers thing. One guy scouting ahead or doing recon is OK, just watch it when groups of 5 or 10 wander away to go "Shoot guys". Just tell them that the bad guys are coming twords YOU and moment now, and to get ready.
DEAD MAN WALKS : Someone will try it, don't let yourself be the story they tell of the big game. ANYONE walking twords you without a gun in the air (Or whatever the dead signal is, barrel plug in the gun, hand on head, whatever) ask them if they're dead or alive. No answer means "live". Shoot for the goggles, guaranted it'll break.
Oh, and watch your paint. Not saying be conservative, but running out of balls just before that really big push... Not fun. (been there, done that...)
I'll think of more later, but for now, there you go. Oh, and pick up last ish. of PGI for the crash course, there's a lot of good stuff in there I didn't cover in this.
