Millennium Series & Campaign Cup - Rules Hypocrasy

Now that the forums are up and running again - it's time to start a lively discussion.

First off let me say how brilliant the CC 2001 was. Great job to all the organizers. Yes the fields where small - and yes the design of some should have been better thought out - but all in all, it was a great time.

Unfortunately for me when I look back there are 2 things that stand out about the tournament and also the sereis in general.

Firstly:
All the discussions about blind dead zones. They where instituted in Toulouse and continued for Stockholm & CC. People say they where great did a good job of stopping arguments and stopped players from interferring in games. But after countless assurances from Niall & Big John that players will be required to turn around & face the other way - we can all admit that this just didn't happen. A prime example was while waiting for our game to start on the Diablo field we watched a game on the Angel field. On the field was a prominent British pro team, all of whose players where peeking through the banners that where supposed to hinder players from watching. Not only where they watching but one player seemed to be voicing codes quite loudly - maybe even loud enough for his own player on the backmost inverted "T" to hear. When I mentioned this to our field refs (the boys from Banzai) they said "hey that's not our field - so it's not our problem".

Now either get rid of the blind dead zones - still keep them at the back - or enforce the damn rule and make sure everyone doesn't watch. If this means that organizers need to find 2 "scrubs" for each field that do nothing but watch the deadzone, I say "Just do it", if not let us watch the game.

Second:
Did anyone other than myself notice the gun throwing incident that happend in the pro finals? A very prominent industry figure throws his marker and nothing happens - not even a minimum "unsafe marker penalty: -50 pts". If this had happened then Image would have been 3rd not 1st. Now I wonder what will happen - will he be penalized (6 month quarantine) or will the series organizers step on their d!cks? I guess only time will tell - but in my opinion GZ are the real champs.

Anyway, just some things to think about on a boring Thursday.

i saw a lot of looking around as well, we watched diablo image on the JT field and they were on their hand and knees watching the game under the banner that was on the fence. there was a marshal right next to them and he said nothing.

saw the gun throwing bit as well. i rember reading in PGI that they were going to come down heavy on that sort of thing...evidently not it would seem.

In the case of the Dioblo image player looking under the banners i can assure you that the marshall would have pulled a one for one after warning the player in question if he had only seen him look at the game. We did pull one for ones for players looking... Don't know about the other fields but we sure did. Ask Backlash and Aftershock...
I really think there should be no way for the players to look at the game or the rule should be changed... It's simply too hard not to look when the adrenalin is still pumping from the game. Maybe som kind of box you enter after beeing eliminated?

Best regards
