Media Exposure? Tv the only way?

Ok so I was walking through town yesterday when I wandered into GAME and guess what I saw? The Greg Hasting's Paintball game in prime position. This got me thinking along with Robbo's 'online exclusives'. Why not use games like GHTP to promote paintball instead of putting so much effort into enticing TV? After all paintball is dull to watch but great fun to play...

For example if PGi had included a free voucher for the magazine with GHTP they could dramitically increased the number of people exposed to their magazine and hence paintball. Or include a free/discounted entry pass to a local paintball field?

These would allow people to see that tournament paintball isn't just a computer game but a 'proper sport' as well and could potentially increase the number of walk-on, tourny players dramatically.

Just a thought...

Hell if PGI and for that matter PBUK have the money then why not put a free copy of...... voucher in Nuts/Zoo/Fhm/Maxim (you get the picture) that will get LOADS of extra peeps seeing paintball as something else rather than just a fun thing to do for a stag day.

We have done subs vouchers and free copy offers in the past few years, 100s of thousands of them in fact...it's not cheap and your conversion rate tends to be pretty low. The insert charges in the magazines you list, if they would even accept an insert from a rival publisher, which is unlikely, are pretty prohibitive.

We tend to flyer in guns, goggles, paint etc. - stuff that shows up at fields the world over. Higher conversion rate, better way of spreading the word.

We did do some work with Loaded a while back and helped them put together a big feature on Paintball, and these things still pop up from time to time.

No you miss the point. The point is they already have shown interest in paintball by buying GHTP, and by including a voucher/coupon for a magazine they would a get a better idea of what it all about.

Munkeh,

I did get your point just went a little further on m8.

Duff,

Yeah I have seen in the past that that form of promotion is not the best, just another angle. I must admit to never having seen the vouchers/free copy offers PGI have done in the past.

see this is a brilliant idea and SHOULD work, but you have to remember what a ****e image paintball actually has.

until paintball is shown in the olympics or something LOTS of people watch (and not at 2 in the morning for **** sake!!!! no theyd rather put some ****e like bargain hunt on at 7!!!), then paintball (even tourney ball which is soooooooo much better its unbelieveable) will just be seen as kids running in the woods shooting at each other.

we need a BIG publicity act to not just show maxim mag readers (yes we know why they have shiny paper) but as many people as possible.

if bloody synchronised swimming can enter the olpympics then tournament paintball can aswell!!! even if we are just shown as a potential olympic sport, its the publicity tourney ball needs and deserves

until then, put your thinking caps on? lol

Paintball wouldn't make it into the Olympics, ever. Now the X-Games is a different matter. It's definitely an X-Games sport, and would probably be received very well.

The Greg Hastings game should raise the profile of paintball just like the Tony Hawk games did for skateboarding. I mean how many kids today skate on account of that game? Probably loads. They need to make GHTP into a strong franchise. The early Tony Hawk games only attracted skateboarders, it wasn't until later that people from outside the sport joined in.

Another thing is for paintball brands to have recognition outside the paintball world. Quiksilver, Billabong, DC etc are prime examples of this. The clothes look cool, and are made by and for surfers/skaters etc. People associate the image with something that is cool and thus want to get into it to appear more cool themselves. The same can happen with paintball.

What paintball also needs is to move away from the image of fat blokes on stag weekends and office away days that it has at the moment. I told people in my office that I played paintball and they thought it was hilarious, they don't realise that we take it as seriously as people who play club rugby or sunday league football take their sports.

Anyway this is just my opinion.

Something I quite often think about is along the same lines, paintball clothes could very easily become a new trend (is that word still cool? dunno, don't care as I'm old and fat now lol) Anyway if I had the money I would open a paintball shop in the busiest area of my city and have really mad, cool window designs with all sorts of paintball clothing and equipment, not just playing tops but some of the other casual gear that is available from Dye, Angel etc. Don't think it would be long before you saw youngsters all togged up in paintball stuff, bov'd if they play or not, it will still raise the sports profile some more as they will be coming into a paintball shop and see (from video screens etc) more about the sport.

Another 2p from me. :D
