So was watching vids on the eclipse 170r and came across the m170r which surprised me. I understand no electronics in the m version, but just wondered why they might be chosen over electric ones and any pros and cons to them? What looked cool was you could buy a mechanical frame to fit the normal 170r so can switch between the two, but not clear on why that's good..
The capabilities of electronic editions have pretty much peaked, with many differences between models being cosmetic and fine tuning.
The rules of events have moved to reducing the caps, and it’s possible (with the right skills/practice) to get a higher rate of fire from an uncapped mechanical against a capped electronic.
There’s an attraction of having something different, in recent years people have built their own mechanical modifications to some models and that has also made some interest.
It also would solve the problem that some people have of being incapable of using a decent battery, or don’t want that moment when a battery fails.
I have a team mate who’s gun was going back and forth for servicing, it would come back running perfectly and then the next time he played it would have problems.
We caught him using cheap batteries, when the techs sorted it they often swapped his battery (or he sent it in the post with no battery, and they returned it with the good battery that they used when testing it after servicing)
He was either leaving it in the shed with the battery getting cold and slowly draining, or he was pulling out and using the good battery in something else and then buying cheap before game day
Some events exist that are mechanical only, which often meant people we’re taking out their old guns.
Manufacturers have seen a market for mechanicals.
Look at the games you intend to play, and unless there are special rules restrictions then just buy the gun that takes your fancy
