Max Flow 4500, HP/LP Whats the difference?

I've got a 4500 Max Flow reg from an Impulse, thus it feeds gas at a fairly low pressure. The Smart Parts guide indicates (page 7) that the reg comes fitted with a high pressure spring and a spare low pressure spring. Thus, I assume the same reg can be used for both. Tried to get an HP spring fitted by Smart Parts at the World Cup, they said this can't be done, but, they could give me a good price on a new reg. I've since been told by a reputable airsmith that I can simply swap the spring over.

Can anybody advise whether there is good reason for what Smart Parts now say, or are they just trying to get me to buy a new reg.

Cheers guys.

My Mate has had the very same answer today "can't be done, that'll be £250 for a new reg".

When I bought my first Max-flow I had a spare HP spring so I've no idea why they (Smart Parts) are now saying you can't do it.

Anybody got any ideas?

I would think they make the LP reg with more exact tolerances in mind therefore the manifold and the internals would not be able to withstand the higher input pressure. So it would be just like making a 3 k tank but trying to fill it up to 4.5 k (boom!). On the flip side you can fill a 4.5 k tank up to 3 k and not have any probs. Just a guess using a little logic so don't take these words as law.

Hmmmmmmm

I see where U R coming from but wouldn't they both have the same input pressure, 4500, and in the interests of standardisation wouldn't both be made of the same parts? Given that the regs did come with 2 springs this would appear to be the case. As far as accuracy of tuning the lighter spring of the same length would allow this on the lower presure option.

I still smell a rat here, but, I'm open to offers on why the regs should be different.

Max 4500 LP and HP

Hey guys,

How do I explain the difference !!!! well here goes.

LP (Low Output Pressure)
HP ( High Output Pressure)

Low Pressure means what is says and is only used for real low pressure guns like the Shocker and Impulse.

High pressure means anything above 250 psi. You get 2 springs. 1 Spring is for 250 - 600 psi and the other for 600 psi and up.

As you can imagine most markers these days are working towards lower pressure so the extra spring probably wont be used.

The physical differnce is only in the front portion of the reg where the cap and spring is. If you remove these then you will see the piston. It is much smaller on the HP reg as it does not need to be as sensitive.

If you need to change form LP to HP the only way is to buy a new reg only (not the cradle and everything else.)

Hope i've been some help and if you have any questions please mail me back at Phil@smartpartseurope.co.uk

Thanks Phil

I assume from what you said that as the pistons are of different size so is the spacein the reg. body in which they sit.

It appears that I got the details for the wrong reg. when I bought mine, which has lead to the confusion.

Thanks for clearing it up.
