which mask is better, the jt Spectra Flex-8 Full Headshield, or the proto switch el?
do headshots hurt much? would i be better with a mask and a padded hat rather than a headshield? ....does anyone know anywhere that sells padded hats?

unless you wanna suffer some inevitable redicule i would avoid the full head shield personally.

All these are good goggs:

Dye Invisions
JT Proflex or Flex 7
Proto Switch
E-Vents - but these are brand new

Head shots as you would imagine do hurt
What most people do is get a couple of head wraps and a sandana (all over head wrap) such as a real tree one.

you can also use a "beanie" type hat most shops sell these but you can get cool paintball branded ones such as from planeteclipse.com

hope this helps

About 1 in a million :D it depends wether you stick your head out far enough for it to get shot really if your a really tight player you can probably keep head shots on the downlow but it depends on you. as lovetone said get yourself a nice eclipse beanie or headwrap and it wont hurt as much.

Mate,

Try the goggs out for fit and comfort, thn buy what suits you, I find the proto EL's comfortable, but they have a single lens, that fogs up, the FS is almost the same fit, but better made, hence the difference in price (and with a thermal lens too, I think). A couple of our guys bought cheap basebal (thick material) caps (fron Asda I think) for a couple of quid, then sewed the pads from some bird's bra in to the gap and wear them backwards. If your gf/mum isn't willing don't nick you neigbors of the line, that behavior is still frowned upon I beleive :)

At the end of the day, you'll look like an escapee from deltaforce in a 'peanut', get what suits you, then pad out your dome if you think you need it!

You'll forget about headshots, once you've been shot in the side at close range in a mugging, I got shot a dozen times on a run thru last weekend (by over excited noobs whilst breaking open a training game) and didn't notice the headshot I took for a couple of days, compared to the others, the worst are neck shots, they look awful the next day (would recomend a neck gaurd to start with) but you need to get used to taking a punishing, if you want to play with the big boys, it's all part of the learning process. The only time I suffer now is from newbies who don't know when to stop shooting!

Yup, neck shots are far more painful & a lot more visible afterwards than head shots.

You will look like an octopus has been giving you hickies:D

I can't abide wearing neck protection myself but if you want to save yourself some nasty bruising, it's a must.

As far as headshots are concerned, I just tend to play in a sandana as if I do take a head shot, it tends to be a "gogging". I took a bit of a head rattler on the back of my bonce on Sunday but they're rare enough for me not to be too concerned.

At the end of the day, it all depends on your pain threshold ! :D

to be honest i wouldn't get any of those masks, headshots hurt depending on where on your head you get it and from how far away the shot is coming from, i could sell you a padded hat as well if you want
