How much do marshalls get paid, do they have to work 5,6,7 days a week. I wouldn't mind marshalling every week or every two weeks at local sites, just to get some experience and be more involved in paintball without it costing me, and perhapes getting a bit of extra cash for doing something I like. Is there a place I can go to find out if people are in need of part time marshalls??

Sites need marshall when the customers are - normally at weekends.

And most sites pay between £40-£50 for the day but give you lunch/snacks etc through the day.
As for sites, look in phonebook/yellow pages/contact Bully and UKPSF

Most sites will want workers for Saturday's / Sundays.

I work for National Paintball Games in Knutsford, and they pay me £35 (should be £40 by now)

The days are long, but are usually are a great laugh, however that depends on wehter you have a bunch of F**king ass holes, eg. Threatning to beat you up if you give them penalty points!!!

But ALWAYS take some paint out to shoot your fellow marshalls
:D

Just ring your Local paintball site, or as suggested by Beaker ring Bully @ UKpsf.

You dont really get that much experiance though, because you spend most of your time running around fixing Inferno's, or shouting at some kid for lifting there masks!!

I know what you mean, I went to Delta Force in Knutsford twice in as many months b4 christmas with some mates. There were about 140 people there and the marshalls had a real hard time, but they looked like they were having a laugh. Two of them even flanked another marshall from boths sides on the way back to base and completly lit him up. I spoke to one guy, he said he'd never played paintball in his life, he was only there for beer money, which is strange, I have always though that all marshalls had their own markers and did actually play!

all marshals play

Um not all some very good marshalls never play.

This is only my opinon but if you have not done something you can never appriciate whats fully going on.

As part of our marshal training, once commintted ie turn up on time get stuck in at least once. All new non playing marshalls play the site as a customer, then they see things from a whole new angle the adrenaline, being real excited not really wanting to listen. It really helps get into a customers head and knowing how to help and manage them better. It also helps to know they can take the hits. We were really busy during the summer and took on 6 new summer marshals 4 of them were girls one was really delicate and it really suprised me she got stuck in. I sent the boys out to shoot them (play a few games) I didn't want to frighten them too much so didn't throw them in with gun ho customers. So no being lit up. They came back beaming:D becky is still with us and the rest are back at uni.

I can think of 3 or 4 non playing marshals but all my lot have played or try there best to play as often as budgets allow.

We (the site team) will be out and about this year so see you all around.

On the subject of learning any thing, well it all depends on the site and it's customers really. As a marshall you learn quick not to be paint shy especially when you find yours self stuck in a fire fight.

You learn to watch shots coming in mostly to avoid them lol real obvious stuff like how to fill a co2 or air bottle most newbie rec players haven't got a clue.

And then it's back to the staff and the customers you attract we have a real mix on site and luckly for the newer younger guys some real knowledgeable players and marshals.

So if you have a good site for a wet behind the ears newbie you might well learn a lot but it sure won't teach you every thing;)

Marshalling etc.

I've been marshalling/ running sites for 4 years now and if you're talking about learning more about how to play 'ball, I think it really can help... Obviously you won't learn much apart from how to shout at people if you're marshalling for about 100 people (has been done, nightmare :() but smaller games I think can be useful... You won't learn anything about technique but you can learn about shooting lanes and everything like that... The other perk is that many sites allow their marshalls to play for free. One of the sites I've worked at allowed me to run a 'training' session on their speedball field every Thursday night and sold the marshalls paint at nearly cost price... This meant that non-playing marshalls became playing marshalls and learnt a lot... The standard of play there is pretty high and on occassion we invited players from various teams down and massacred them... which was nice... so marshalling is definitely worthwhile as long as u pick the right site to work at... Sorry for the essay :)
