Three of the Manchester Marshals were at Campaign (Gilly, Stuart & myself ). We were on field 3 for the prelims then field 2 for the finals. It was good to be back there again, and congratulations to Dynasty for proving again they are the best team in the World.

Whilst there, we were approached by teams wanting us to train them how to marshal. Also, we were in discussions with Paintball UK Magazine regarding setting up a marshal training school.

So, in conjunction with our sponsors Planet Eclipse, Phoenix Paintball, Undercover, Diablo Direct and Fat Bob's Paintball, we are planning marshal training courses during the winter.

This will help to address the problem of inexperienced or slack marshalling at top-level tournaments.

We are in discussions regarding locations for the training days. If any sites would like to offer their support, let us know.

Hmm...
In finnish paintball league and division one, every team has to ref one event. We also have mandatory reffing training (2-3/year)arranged by the finnish paintball federation for at least five of the guys from every team to attend once in year to be able to attend the series. This raises the quality of reffing a lot. Of course the bitching and moaning of reffing never ends. You could always perform better.
How about if this would be the standard for the MS also. One team from every country (or nearby) witch is appreciated and respected of their reffing skills could set up a training day for refs who are about to ref a MS event. MS would give a small funding for this.
In that way we could make sure every reffing team is up to some standard.

The Manchester Marshals are of the opinion that when teams ref for points, the quality of their judging sometimes leaves something to be desired.

Just because you are a pro player does not mean you are automatically a pro ref! Take, for example, last year's Millennium event at Amsterdam.

Ideally, reffing crews should consist of not less than 6 refs and 1 head field judge, that is, at least 7 judges per field. All of them should be properly trained and experienced. The head field judge should be Millennium standard.

At Campaign, we had 11 judges on the Xball field. This meant if a player even farted, we knew about it!

For the one of the GZ games and the Avalanche Strange games we had 17 marshalls on field 2;)
