Hey all, I'm just looking at getting a set up to start paintballing. I only play at sites where you rent the guns air etc for the day, so I'm not sure what marker would suit a newby. I have been on the 'For sale' thread although i don't understand half of it  any way I'm looking at spending £150 or around that price.

Any suggestions would be great

Cheers,

Wayne.

So called starter markers are a false economy.
Buy a Marker,take advice,see what's on offer.
Starter markers are usually defunct within 2 walk-ons due to their ability or lack of it.
Cheap and upgradeable got to be a tippmann(mech) or Ion(electro);buy a st'd one cheap(2nd hand) and spend as you want.
Both the guns I have mentioned are within your budget.
If your playing with "punters"/rentals then the Tippmann would be the best bet,as most site guns are electro they can't complain if your using a mech,in fact most will believe they have the upper hand(even though you will out shoot them in terms of acuracy at least).
Easy to maintain and ultra-reliable...:D
Good hunting.

if you are just starting

get a tippmann 98 as a basic marker second hand. They are indestructable and with a bit of extra cash spent on them will have full auto modes of fire etc.

Alot of people here will say get an ion or save ur cash get an ego £200 second hand etc but as your budget is half that , get a tippmann 98.

Oh and u will need a set of googles as well vforce profilers in my opinion the best there is. based on cheap replacement lenses and performance.

I have an ego (which breaks from time to time) and my 98 backup marker has never let me down.

if you buy a 98 second hand they hold their value second hand. so u can sell it on to a mate who is starting out and u can get a better marker when cash permits.

First off don't think that a Tippman 98 will be full auto, it won't, and even if it did that would make it illegal in the UK (I don't want to go into too much detail but thats the bottom line).
You may wish to upgrage your trigger to a response trigger which has a piston that kicks you trigger back out for you once you have fired off a shot much faster that standard which can lead to increased rates of fire.

UK ions have two firing modes as standard, semi (one trigger pull = one shot) and ramp (if you maintain x balls per second it will shoot 10bps) but still NOT full auto.

Secondly, £150 is not half of £200!! :p

For £150 you should be able to pick yourself up an Ion and hopper second hand.

Does your local site run off compressed air or Co2?

Co2 will freeze the circuit board inside an Ion thus bu@@ering it up. So you would need to get your hands on an air bottle before you play, unless you can borrow/hire one at your local site.

An Ion would do for either scenario or tourny style play. So is a good all rounder and very upgradable.

Tippman 98 is more suited to the scenario scene and like the Ion is very upgradable. This will run off Co2 or air, the decision is up to you.

Again you should be able to pick up a Tippy and hopper second hand within your budget.

Anything you are unsure about just post up and someone one here will be able to help out.

TBH it depends on what sort of paintball that you want to play..... Your best bet is too research what guns you might like and decide for yourself.
Have a look at the new Sp markers as they are catering for scenario and supair.

wow, thank you for all the feedback.

Well i have just got back from a all day supair spanking from the FE team (which are a great bunch of lads), and i borrowed a DM7, this gun was amazing and makes me want to get a loan and splash out. But i need to keep my head on therefore i think i might go for one of these ions (standard) as they sound like they could maybe stand more of a chance (performance wise) than a tip 98 (standard) would. Or i could save a little more and get proto SLG, thanks for pointing that one out jamess

Oh also i will always be playing supair and its air that i would prefer.

Well guys thanks for all the info and I'll be taking all this into mind so when i turn out pro I'll give you all a shout out :p

Seriously though, thanks a lot.
