I was just pondering to myself and couldnt really find a section for this...

Does anyone used matched pairs?

In for example shotgun terms a matched pair is very expensive and highly sought after as usually they are custom built, they ideally shoot exactly the same and hold following serial numbers made at the same time for a specific job.

Does anyone own or every heard of anyone shooting matched pairs? I would have thought pro teams would shoot matched pairs eg a first marker and a backup / spare with both guns following in serial number.

2nd part of the question, if so does it actually make a difference.

Strange question but was just thinking about it thats all :D

in theory the first marker should be the best, as the machine making it is brand new, well oiled, and nothing is wrong with it.
this is not the case with hand made markers obviously.
but you could say that every marker made on the machine is made to the same standard and as such there is no difference.

One of my (many and varying) fantasies was to have a backup and a primary gat, both lasered and themed around feudal Japan, sort of Tadao-ish. The primary would be a katana, and the backup a wakizashi, to form a Daishō.

How bloody geeky is that?

They don't use a new M/C for each new marker that comes out.

CNC machines will last years and remain cnsistant if properly maintained. During the part to part running of the machine the only difference between the milling will be the tool wear. The tools will be changed every half dozen parts or so. But will make a very small difference in size/finish unless the tool is goosed.

The important dimensions of the marker (internal bore etc) will most likely be ground to a fine tolerance. So each marker will be pretty much bang on the same, give or take a few microns.

That said, if the machine shop is a bit slack, then noticeable differences will occur.

So without stripping the markers down and checking the dimensions you would never know.

All a load of ****e with modern technology if you ask me.

There will actually be a matched pair on the market this year.
Tiberius Arms are producing a 'Boondock Saints' limited edition 2-pistol set. They will be black nickel coated, and engraved with Aquitas on one and Veritas on the other. They will be the bomb for sure, and will share a serial number.
I'd say this is the closest thing so far.
Tiberius arms make their guns in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I have an Elite ST that shoots the new 'First Strike' rounds, it's the shxt. I can shoot twice as far and if I dial in a 4x32 scope I can hit what's in my cross-hairs first shot at 200'. You have no idea how good it feels to have that kind of accuracy and range while no-one can get a ball anywhere near you.
