Hi guys i was wondering if anyone has had any success in importing markers from the united states. The reason i ask this is i've found some nice bob long markers which i'd love to own and am considering getting a mate in the USA to ship one over to me. I've contacted HMRC to ask the legalities but it would be nice to hear from someone with first hand experience.

It can be done, but you will be liable to VAT and Import Duties, that along with the shipping charges and the fact that you'll be on your own when it comes to servicing, spares and repairs usually makes it impractical for most.

However, LiPS are THE Bob Long dealers for the UK, and their support and availability is often far ahead of dealers in the USA. As you probably know, the BL range is made in fairly small numbers.

Give them a call on 01707 325007 or post up in their section on this forum.

Standard markers are legal to import, milsims etc may fall under the VCRA.

Buying direct from the US would cause you to get the higher delivery charge, getting a friend to have it in the US will stilll incur the international delivery. If bought in a shop there is only one delivery charge, if he orders it then there i the US delivery plus the international delivery.

On arrival in the UK there is import duty which will equal VAT, but you will also pay a handling charge to the courier.

This will become a grey import and you then are not entitled to a UK warranty - for any support you would have to refer to the US and this may be refused let alone the cost of passing it back and forth should there be a fault. Buy from Lips and you get full support etc and you are supporting UK retailers.
