Hi, ive just fitted a new grip to my ion its a standard grip in tactical green but for some reason when i was screwing the final screw in on the left side of the grip at the bottom its threaded and wont tighten up, so the actual frame of my ion is threaded in 1 screw so i cant tighten my grip up on one side properly, what should i do ? i dont think you can just buy a standard ion frame from anywhere can you ? would an aftermarket frame fit the standard ion body kit on and not look stupid ? if so which one is a decent one to get ?

thanks in advance

well what u should do is take it to the tec's at smarts-parts they have a smart-parts factory in kent they should sort it out for u and as long as it's an ion it should be sorted out for u for free.

it is an ion, ive changed the trigger to a CP trigger and changed the drop forward though, fitted an sp q lock do you think they will be fussy about me having changed the trigger/drop forward ?

If you have changed anything then it wont be covered by the warranty and WONT be fixed for free.

Also traveling from Preston to Kent is a bit far, even if it was covered.

Your best bet would be to look on classifieds to see if someone has upgraded their frame and has the stock one spare.
Its unlikely though, because there are only a few aftermarket Ion frames available in the UK.

Failing that get the screw hole drilled out and tapped for a bigger screw, any metalwork engineer can do this.

I'm with John on this, personally I'd tap them out to a metric thread, then use Stainles button head allen screws in the grip. The problem I always seem to encounter with Ions is where someone has used metric allen keys and rounded out the gripframe screws, banjos etc, then complains that they are crap :)

Altho they aint cheap :D[/quote]

 Bit of overkill there, though I'm sure there's a bias  . A single Recoil/Helicoil kit would be a lot cheaper, though I have used Time Serts in the past, they are good!

i am sure that smartparts would fix your gun, i had exactly the same problem and they fixed it for me. Even if its not covered by the guarantee they should be kind enough to fix it for you anyway.

if you're saying you crossthreaded it (put it in at an angle and now the thread of the whole is cut), then you can just get a dremel with a grinding head, slice the top of the grip screw, and get it out with a flat head screwdriver - if that's not your problem, then ignore this - i know nothing about ions, and id never buy one :)
