Can someone explain the rationale behind how the draw is done? Is it just the first event of the season? Is it only CPL?

As it stands it appears that the top 4 seeds were separated purposefully while the rest were drawn randomly? Or is it purely luck of the draw?

Thanks

Teams are divided in 4 urns based on last years ranking. urn 1=ranking 1-4, urn2= 5-8, urn3=9-12, urn4=13-16.

So group A is one random selection from each of all 4 urns. And so on ..

That is how it looked like on live coverage last night.

similar to soccer

Thanks, Volkan
That works. So it isn't a purely random draw at all. It makes even less sense to me now than before. :)
This is the way the big soccer cup tournaments do the draw in Europe (and soccer World Cup also I think) and it is always a big fuss (shown live in sport channels), so this is just a way to get some discussion going and maybe make paintball look like a bit bigger sport than it is.

It has been like this since the beginning of the 2009 season Baca.
I know some of us had spoken about doing it like this much in advance of last season, I was particularly a fan of this method having played Joy at pretty much every event in 2007 due to the old snake method :tsk:

I dont know if it was also used in SPL last year but I would hope it is.

In the end, most teams can beat anybody on their day, at least it brings some more variety to the divisions

atshii--thanks. I heard that from a friend too and it makes some sense when you're trying to make match-ups across and between different leagues.

MikeyD--if it's cool with the teams it's cool with me. Personally the last thing I'd like seeing is the possibility my competitors get an easier path due to random selection.

Appreciate the info.
