I am going to trials for red heat fairly soon and it will be my first experience of tourney ball cos their trials are that they make a B team and throw you in the Midlands masters.(which is kinda cool). I aint new to the sport( playing rec ball for 5 years and i am 15) but i am just a tad nervous. I am totaly up for it but you know the feeling. Anyway just wondering if any of you old foggies who been around the sport for a while could give me any tips. I play up front on the left tape and (not wanting to sound cocky) am freaking fast.(can run 100 in under 13 secs). Anyway any tips post um here. Thanks:p

don't let nerves get the better of you. Running fast is great ... unless you get shot 3 times in the face as soon as your at the barricade cos your not calm enough.

Don't do anything stupid and just enjoy yourself.

i said under 13 sec. My pb is 12.2 if you must know. Anyway seriously thanks for the advice. Just keep those handy tips coming in guys. Hell if if there are enough i will never use the term fogie again

Relax

Don't try too hard to make an impression and do bad boy moves - play tight, snap-shoot, communicate...don't try to do run throughs all the time. Oh, and NEVER TRADE.

And when you're in your bunker stay calm and relaxed: you get tense, your muscles tighten up, you react and move slower. Chill, enjoy, listen and learn and you'll do great.

Communicate and listen for direction of fire from the opposition. Have you ever reffed a tournament? I would highly recommend doing so as soon as possible. You learn from that how things are timed, that is, when ideal moments occur and how to take advantage of them. You'll see it when you play that you can almost sense stuff coming like "Gee, I'd be going for the flag about now" or "Holy crap someone could come right over the top here and get me" then adjust accordingly. Get to recognize familiar situations.
