Lubricants!

Hi,

In my continuing faliure to find (now let me try and phrase this so I don't sound crude)... paintball marker bolt lubricant, I would like some help.

I have been told that Molykote (Silicon based) gell is the best. However, I can't get hold of the stuff! I have tried getting it through a chemical supplies firm, but they won't sell it to me (coz they don't trust individuals, hmm funny that!). I have been scabbing it from people, but to have my own would be nice.

So I went down to the hunting stall in the indoor market, they had some stuff that claimed to be "Molybdenum Di-sulphide based" will it be ok to use this if I have been using Molykote before.

Anyone who knows please? (BTW I am doing a chemisrty degree so if anyone can really explain why I can or can't use it I would find an explaination interesting).

TIA

the previously recommended lubricants are great for bolts for shockers and stuff like that, but the LCD will read out obsenities if you come anywhere close to an Angel with that stuff....I'm sure you know that but i didn't want a newbie angel owner to read this and gum up his angel....for an angel Gold Cup is the best.

Wouldn't that be hilarious if someone made an LCD board that would swear at you!

OKay Guys....

Many thanks for your replies. Yes i use a cocker. I have had a look on both Smart Parts and Planets website and I couldn't find either  The other thing is that this MoS2 (That Molybdenum Di-sulphide for the uninitiated/non-saddo) is available down in the centre of town for £3 a pot, so if that stuff will work I'd quite like to use it. So would it work if I have been using Molykote already? If not, where can I get Molykote from, coz I can't find it on the websites?

Thanks again,

Jay! You lubricate your LCD with liquor! 400+ posts! :p

So when do i get my third star

Peace and Goodwill

Dow Corning #33

The Smart Parts grease is officially known as Dow Corning number 33 extreme low temperature grease. It is a mixture of lithium stearate and siloxane, pink in color, and is available from most industrial supply stores in bigger tubes and much better prices than what you would get from Smart Parts. I personally think it to be the best lube, albeit also one of the most expensive. Cobra Snake Oil or Gold Cup are my other two oils I most commonly use. One question: what bolt do you use? If you use a delrin bolt like the Shocktech Alien or Superfly, DO NOT LUBE IT AT ALL!!!! Lubing a delrin bolt is not only unnecessary but causes it to deform or swell, making it stick inside your gun and become useless. So to avoid the need for lube, you might want to get a delrin bolt, in addition to it being lighter which can make your action cycle faster.

Now that can be made to sound really bad.

lubes

No what I mean, nudge nudge wink wink, a nods as good as a wink to a blind bat ;)

Dodgyness aside :D :D :D :D :p

Can't find a silicone (Si based polymer, i.e. "siloxane" what you just said) anywhere, been looking for it for a while with no joy.

Using a standard bolt as far as I am aware (its an old ex-banzai eclipse mini-cocker), definitely a "Please Lube Me" bolt. Trying to avoid buying new bits at the mo (despite various people's best efforts to trick me into wanting a blade type frame..... mmmmm b...l...a...d...e trigger). Can't find anythink about lubes on Smart Parts' site or on Planet's (maybe I'm just a muppet, who knows).

Ne way thanks for another trade name to search for, cheers

P.s. anyone know if a MoS2 based lubricant would be ok to replace a Silicone based one?
