Hi!

We're trying to set up our travel to CC and have a couple doubts:

- What's the best way to go from the airport (Heathrow or maybe Gatwick) to Crystal Palace?

- How long does it take to go from CP to the airports? (specially on Sunday afternoon, we'd like to catch the plane at 8 pm, more or less without missing the finals)

- What's the best way to go from the hotels (the ones in the MS site, for example) to the site? Is a rented car needed? is it a good idea or is it better to stick to public transportation?

Doubts, doubts!

Gatwick - Train to East Croydon / Victoria then change and train to Crystal Palace. - travel time 1hr to 1hr30min (cost £10 per head)

Could get Taxi - for a people carrier sized Cab it would likely cost £80 return (if booked in advance) - travel time 1hr20min

Hire cars are available from the airport too.

Not as sure on Heathrow details

From Heathrow: Piccadilly Line (underground) to Green Park (about 45 mins), then Victoria Line to Victoria (10 mins), then 25 mins on the overground train to Crystal Palace. So realistically you should allow 2 hours to/from Heathrow Airport.

The hotels on the web site are in Croydon, which is 10 mins by train from Crystal Palace.

For overall public transport information in London, www.tfl.gov.uk is the site; for overground train information only, www.nationalrail.co.uk is slightly more useful. For maps and stuff, www.streetmap.co.uk or www.multimap.com both allow you to enter the post code or address and get a nice little map thingy.

If you hire a car, remember that we drive on the wrong side of the road :D

And there's a congestion charge in central london.
Doesn't go anywhere near as far out as Crystal Palace luckily.

Gatwick is the quicker and easier to travel to/from airport for Crystal Palace by both public transport or car.

Best bet is probably a hotel in Croydon (not exactly a thrillingly exciting town, but could be much worse) and a rented car like a people carrier. The drive in from Croydon to CP is reasonably direct and goes nowhere near the congestion zone, and there's OK parking at CP. I personally wouldn't fancy using public transport in the CP area, especially late at night!

Thought in the event of people hiring a car wanting to drive about. That's why I mentioned 'Central London'. I know, I live there :)

Just trying to help...
