If this has made it in, how long until other internet slang also winds it's way into the dictionaries? I must admit I died a little inside reading this news statement.

My degree unfortunately shares a module with the "games design" degree. As you'd expect, the students in that module fit your typical World of Warcraft playing,live with their mother, never spoken to a girl face-to-face stereotype, in which the majority will repeatedly say "rofl" out loud alongisde all the other acronyms...*shudders*

But surely LOL is an acronym, so why has it become its own word, as opposed to an 'official' acronym?

If someone tries using it in Scrabble, I'm not accepting it. It's short for something else. Things that are short for something else are not allowed (in scrabble). It's like asap being a word - No it isn't, it's 4 words. It's one thing people being too lazy to type, but being too lazy to speak is inexcusable.
