i've been told that you should never put Loc-tite on, you should use a straps wrench or something similer to put the reg on as tight at possible, and when the tank is gased up, they become almost impossible to screw off.

Please correct me if i'm wrong, dont want him to blow his face off, he's a nice guy :D

in the case of the stako bottle i don't know if loctite is used or not. the reason it is not advised for other bottles is that the bottle threads can be ruined when removing the reg. in the case of the stako bottle, you won't be getting it retested, so unless you need the reg removed for a flight it shouldn't make any difference.

I personally have never loctited my bottles, and have never had any problems either so i would advise against. as long as the reg is on tight enough the pressure of the air will keep it secure.

hoep this helps, or again i could be talking sh!te........................

Loctite is not normally used if you fit a regulator your self because the loctite can block up the safety features that vent the air at if the regulator and bottle happen to start unscrewing. I was told by both tom allen and john c not to use loctite, and there advise is as good as anyone’s I think.

It’s also pretty much impossible to unscrew your regulator from bottle when gassed up. The air pressure squeezes the mating components together. So basically as long as you tighten your bottle and regulator up as tight as you can get it with a clamp assuming the reg and bottle are new there is no need to use loctite.

Ok we havehad this thread befor and the same sort of answers came up!!!

Yes you should use a form of loctite on the thread it can be an easy break one !

The way a reg is designed is for it to allow the air in the bottle to vent out before you could ever unscrew it all the way.

on that note thoughi have seen some current regs on the market with out a ristrictor and the threaded undercuts.

if your bottle is screwed 100% on and upto the collor of the bottle it would be impossible to sheer the bottle off the reg however if it is even 1000th of an inch unscrewed you weaken the sheer rate by 50%.

its like the windscreen of your car it adds 70% of the strength to the roof in the possibility of a roll have a crack in your windscreen you might as well have a roof made of butter.

so in closing loctite your regs!!!!!!!!!!
