I've been working and saving money whenever I can for the last year or so and now I finally have enough for a new gun. I'm in the price range for a shocktech cocker or an angel...I can hold off a few months for the dark angel? Any other recommendations?

See my post in Tactics and Techniques about advice to new guys for the full bit on this, but the short version of my answer to your question is pick them all up and test them for yourself before buying, and don't assume that because you spend more money you'll get a better gun. Also, there's a significant gap between owning a Cocker and owning any electro: mechanical instead of electronic trigger. Granted, a Shocktech Cocker is going to be about as good a trigger as you can find and will shoot excellently and reliably and about make you want to nut your pants, but no Cocker trigger will ever be an electro and you CAN, ALBEIT LESS LIKELY THAT YOU WILL, YOU CAN, short stroke it and chop. In short, no matter how great a Cocker can be, a Cocker may not be the best gun for you. Conversely an Angel might not be the best gun for you, even though it's unlikely that there will be anything majorly wrong with it (but don't count on there not being.). You may like an Emag. You may like a Shocker. You may be even satisfied with an Impulse. Don't rule out any possibilities until you have played several games with them and found out for yourself.

You are talking about getting an Angel or a Cocker. Well, why not the best of both worlds and get an Excalibur? It is closed-bolt like a cocker and fast like an Angel. It is low pressure (180psi), it has the best reg (AKA Sidewinder), it is very reliable, it is very efficient on air, you can also use co2 should you want to, it has a great lifetime warranty through AKA (a very dependable company), and you can get it for the price of an Angel or less.

In other words, I higly recommend the Excalibur.

Or, if you want to save money, ou could get an AKA Viking. It is open-bolt. It is better than the Angel in many ways. It goes use lower pressure, it has a better reg (AKA Sidewinder), it is more efficient on air, you can use co2, it has a lifetime warranty, it is just as fast as an Angel, it is as reliable or more reliable than the Angel, and the retail price is only $775.

You can't beat that!

Plus the gee-wiz factor you get at the field when you show up with an Excal. Every one's like whoa, what the hell is that? plus they're sweet as hell, but ... if you're in the UK, you might go for an angel just cuz then you wouldn't have to worry about shipping it over here to get it serviced if anything happened to go wrong.

These guys are right you should really try these markers before deciding, but if you ask me, i would go for the cocker, I love my baby, but hey you might hate them. Dont forget the angel needs more air to operate than the cocker, and the angel only works on air, which is quite expensive.
