I am of the opinion that a major factor affecting the shelf life of tournament players and teams is the cost.

Namely, the cost of paint to train and play with.

We watch DVD's of US teams and try to emulate them, but the fact is that we don't have the support that US teams have in the way of paint. So 5 players blazing 8 pots away every point isn't really an option for us that is viable in the long term, as this equates to 2 boxes every point.

Besides, less paint encourages more movement.

I think that a series of limited paint X-Ball events would attract more players to tournament play.

Does anyone agree?

More emphasis on movement and skill, less on fire supression.

It's got my vote.

Plus you could add a tactical aspect as well, limit each team to a box of paint per player for the whole tourny, in addition to say a hopper and two pods for each game.

So, unlimited semi (no ramping), and piant limited to a hopper and a pot might be the way forward.

Hmmmm.............sounds like what WDP were doing years ago!

And very successfully - their limited paint events were always packed out.

Yes WDP used to do limited paint tournaments when they ran the National Tournament Fields.
You got an allocation of paint for the day for your team and you divided it how you wanted between your players.

I know, I played and enjoyed them.

APS (formerly WDP) are now doing a similar thing with their A-Ball events, except you pay a flat fee and get unlimited ammo.

The first few tourny's i did back in 97ish were all limited paint, i was told its the best way to bring you on as a new player and learns you to move through the field through tactics and not victory by volume which was an issue back then with sponsored teams against the not so fortunate teams.
