leaking Air Bottle

my PMI 5000 PSI 68CU ?Air bottle is leaking from the thread with the mini guage on it..

Can i just tighten the mini guage with a wrench??

or is this a major problem??

Also, are there any special precautions i need to take??

any advice would be appreciated..

Is it a hiss or a complete p!ss out?

try tighening it - if no joy - dump the bottle and put some threadloc on the guage threads and screw back in

should sort it

tightening it might actually make it worse as you'll break the other, working, thread lock.

Best to dump the air, unscrew and start again.

its a tiny leak, barey audible..

only reason i know where it is is because i put it in water...

overnight its went from 4500 to 2800 PSI

any particular type a threadlock i sould use to seal it?

Loctite 242 which is relatively mild (blue stuff)

ok first up is empty the bottle, DONT be tempted to try and tighten it up while the bottle is under pressure, ok it may be very rare but it is possible to strip the thread by tightening it, if this were to happen that guage would be coming off with 5000psi behind it and that is gonna HURT!

empty the bottle completely then put the reg in a vice and remove the guage completey, clean the threads out on both sides and then reloctite it....let its set for at least as long as it says on the bottle before repressurising it otherwise you stand the chance of blowing the loctite out of the thread.

apparently locktite 242 has been superceded by locktite 243 whitch is "supposed" to do the same job according to locktite industrial tech support...

ive re-locktite'd the guage thread 3 times now, each time it has a minute leak on it.

i am contemplating PTFE tape, will this be any better??

NO! it can cause all sorts of problems

Are you 100% sure it's coming from the threads?

Tried a different gauge on it to be sure?
