I have just come back from the Series 2002 tourney at Sunny Scunny and would like to mention the bad language that a lot of ballers use.

The tourney was played in an athletics stadium with quite a few members of the public, wives and children about.

A few players apologised for their bad language when they realised I had my 12 year old son with me.

My point is that we are trying to get paintball recognised as a sport, and should therefore start behaving like sportsmen.

More stadium events will bring us into contact with more of the general public, maybe even TV audiences!

Bad language, in these situations, will do the image of paintball a great deal of harm and there is no need for players to use it that much.

What do you think?

12.54. Judges will eliminate players for the following infractions (including, but not limited to):
....
(3) Second offense on the use of inappropriate language.
Its actually in the millenium rules its just not seen as important enough to enforce.

Gee, its not just on the field, its off as well. I know that you will never stop people from swearing but it seams to be the 'in' thing to do with some players.

Liz, no I have never been in the bar with a Rugby team but I can imagine that the language is quite ripe!

I was so bad at rugby at school that they let me go ice skating instead!

I was watching from the stadium when Delta were playing and one of their guys was f-ing and c-ing when he got shot.

It's understandable that players swear when they get shot out because they're so hyped up for the game and get frustrated when they can't play anymore. It was unfortunate that this guy swore so damn loud just as the press guys were walking round the fields - he couldn't have known - but it's not good for the sport to be associated with anything that parents could frown upon - coz they will.

Still, in the heat of the moment you don't really think about who might be listening.

(btw: I saw some of your games Roland (Troggs) and I thought you all played really well for your first time out as a team and especially your young lad - good luck for the next one !!)

Swearing on field

I do think we have to get rid of it, to help get it televised. But we have to make sure it's done at all site's. Because most people don't mean to do it. It's just a force of habit. But you must not be to hard on players.

The last thing u need is marshall's 1 for 1'in for swearing on field:D

Swearing not in sport are you taking the p!55??
Every sport that I have seen has swearing of some sort in it, although I've never seen lawn bowls but who thinks this is a sport anyhow?
Even not so long ago Tiger Woods told the papperazi to feck off because he wasn't in his zone.
The only reason why you notice it more in p8ntball is because you haven't got 40,000 supporters singing 'who's the masturbater in the black'.
By the way I base my game attitude on Roy Keane's, so any refs who give me a bad call you have been warned:D :D

I think that game was against Hype and he was complaining about being over shot which according to my other half who was spectating if he hadn't spent 30 seconds debating whether to call himself out after a couple of clear hits wouldn't have happened. You play on until they're called out after all. I do believe that Delta were penalised for foul language for the c-ing after that game.

To be fair though, as people have said, professional sport has swearing. IIRC swearing at a referee in football is a red card offence. If that's the case then games I've seen Man U play would have had 3/4 of their team sent off in one incident.

Paintball is a big adrenaline sport we say things we don't necessarily mean to when we're excited-stressed-competitive, there are limits though and I think that was a good example of how to treat it.

Unfortunate but necessary:(
