I spoke to somebody last night Stateside and he told me that offers had come from two sources of 500,000 dollar buy ins to the NXL....
They were declined.....
Those two parties who made the offers are now having to consider increasing their bids.

Bottom line is this...if we had gone in on the WXL at the start of this season, the Euro places within that World X-Ball League would have been worth a minimum of 500,000 dollars and us Euros would have been part of a new world order of TV Paintball !!!!!!!

We chose nation's Cup X-Ball

I also spoke to grandad Pete Martin (his daughter gave birth recently) last night and he pleaded with me not to mention four little words................
I told him I would try but alas, these words have been brewing inside me now for over 6 months and now I can actually say them to the Millennium Board........'I TOLD YOU SO'.........

Ahhhh, that's sooo much better :)

Maybe I missed something...

But was a full franchise deal ever even on the table for the european teams in the first place?

If it was, was there anyone willing to put up the $250k/franchise or whatever it ended up being for the European teams?

I suppose I could be kicking myself in the pants for not getting an X Ball franchise last year, but.... I didn't have $250k then either (or now for that matter).

Chris, we had a full membership deal offered to us at nothing like the 250k price you talk about, and where did ya get that figure that from in the first place for god's sake ?

My hat. You'll note the whole post is prefaced with "I may be horrendously uninformed..." and most of those sentances end in ?'s.

But with even the NXL teams cutting out European travel mid-season as an apparent cost-saving measure, I'd have to believe that taking a franchise to this point, whatever the up-front "fee" was, was certainly an expensive process. Given the amount of ... discussion regarding how relatively poorly financed European teams are in comparison to their state-side counterparts, is there a reasonable expectation that the European teams would have been able to finance themselves to this point had things gone differently?

Don't mean to imply that it's not the case, just saying it isn't an obvious conclusion to me. (Not that I'm anywhere near as informed on it as most hereI'd imagine, which is why I'm askin'.)

OK Chris, here's the deal as it was laid out after we had our meeting:- we were to be offered a full membership to the World X-Ball Series, now although the American buy in figure would have precluded most Euros from even thinking about it, this figure was considerably downsized for not only the Americans but also made manageable for any Euros considering it.
Now we ain't even talking the same order of magnitude as you first speculated, nowhere near it and for the life of me I have no idea where you got that figure from but believe me when I say, what it would have cost us over here to get in, I think 5 teams (RL, Nexus, Joy, Ton Tons and Tigers) would have been able to step up to the plate and I'm pretty sure another one could have been found after a little work and investment.
After all, we only needed 6 as 2 American teams would have been flying across to make up the 8.
Now all this might well be complete bollocks because come the time when the league would have been presented with the deal now on the table for the NXL, would the TV company have wanted that 'international' flavour ?
Basically, even though we would have been in on the World X-Ball league, this did not guarantee us a place in the new TV order, of that I am well aware, the point is...we never gave ourselves a chance to be in on it...this is my whole point !!!

But ?...

If the deal was offered to you (Pete Robibnson), Laurent, Sergei and someone else, why didn’t you accepted it ? Is the millennium board stronger then you and Sergi ,or do you need them to make this deal ? If so, the propose was offered to the Millennium board and not to you, sergei, Laurent and someone else.
Can you please explain things to this humble Portuguese ?

cheers

Sergei, Laurent and myself were talking to Richmond with a view to try and organise a coherent X-Ball package that the Millennium Series could adopt.
I don't think Sergei or myself, at that time, even dreamed the Millennium Board would have declined the offer.
Basically, X-Ball, at that time, needed the Millennium to piggyback its tournaments onto much like the NXL needed the PSP.
Sergei and myself were not offered X-Ball personally, if we had, believe me, we would have had a World X-Ball League with us Euros right in there but alas, it was offered to the Millennium Board to adopt or not....
They chose not.
I hope this clears things up :)
