before any one starts this is just my view.
while at the joy masters and wow what a event ,
it occured to me that no show teams really make a farce of prelim games.

lets take a example.
the diference in makeing the semis and not is a few points.
now half the teams play 10 games and play hard ball, and 10 teams play 9 games and have one no show team.
surely it would be unfair to give these teams through just luck of the draw a place in the semis.
well that.is what has happened and is still happening.
for those that don't know the rules, a team is given either the average score from the other games or 80 points which ever is higher, for no show teams.
how can this be fair, 80 points can be the diffrence from 1st -20th.
surely the only fair system is to give the teams the average of the other 9 games which there have played.
all views r welcome

Got to disagree there Paul,

It has been the case that the majority of No-shows this year have been Nov, or sometimes Am teams. Therefore, the people it hits hardest are the pro's.

Take BC at Joy for instance. They got an 80 as Voodoo didn't show (which they prolly would have got a 96 or so for) That means they had to win one of their games against Worms or Enemy to qualify, which - relatively speaking - where much harder games.

Personally I don't think the 80 point rule is great, but I can't really see an alternative that doesn't unduly penalise one "level" over another.

....but then if we all played in our own divisions it wouldn't be an issue, you could just give the max :)

Although I haven't benefitted or lost out from it, I think the 80 points think should go - give teams the average of their other games.

That's still not ideal tho - and the only way to solve it would be to re-do the schedule once all the teams have registered - a bit dangerous time wise IMO.

Any method which involves giving an amount of points will always disadvantage someone - for example, if the game that Portsmouth Uni won in Toulouse had been given to us as the average of the points from the other games, we'd have had around 6, instead of the 96 we got for winning. It's impossible to be truly fair in this situation, but logisically speaking, in terms of re-doing schedules, it's certainly not possible.

For now, I'm in favour of the average points method (despite what looks like severe objections above ;) )

Agreed :)

Can't say I can suggest the answer either I'm afraid.

asked a cricket fan friend of mine, and he says if a team does not turn up (he said Australia didn’t turn up to play in Srilanka) then the other teams go full points . So there is a precedence for this I other sports. It can be harsh but there is always a chance that the crap team will beat the good team, so you have to give them the benefit of the doubt.
