Brass Eagle Inc. Bans Salms from Future Participation on Company Sponsored Teams
“Jeremy Salms’ behavior at the 2002 World Cup was inexcusable,” said Lynn Scott, President & CEO of Brass Eagle Inc., Team Avalanche’s major sponsor. “He will never again play for a team sponsored by JT, ViewLoader or any of our other brands.”
He explained that, after interviews with all members of the team, the Company is convinced that Salms actions were taken on his own, without the knowledge of other team members; however, because all team sponsorship contracts incorporate behavior clauses, an undisclosed punitive fine will be assessed against Team Avalanche to reinforce the importance of team responsibility in all matters. Hence, the Company will continue to sponsor Team Avalanche, under certain stringent conditions.
“There are many examples in professional sports of individual athletes cheating or engaging in other inappropriate behavior without the involvement of other team members,” said Scott. “Sponsors of those teams do not penalize the whole team and drop their sponsorships because of the actions of one team member, and neither will we.”
But, added Scott, “We have made it very clear to the other members of Team Avalanche that steps must be taken to ensure that this type of thing never happens again.” The Company and team will be agreeing on appropriate preventive actions prior to their next competition.
