just wondering if being able to shoot like 18bps is actually necessary, cos i can shoot bout - 6 bps with my spyder and thats enough to pen someone in.

i know with snap shooting it helps but i watch loads of clips and even with the best guns people only get bout 4 or 5 balls off (wen snap shooting), so its makes little difference. Does it?

any arguments either way?

it depends on your playing level. at rec and scenario games it might not be SO important as you mostly have the opportunity to play sneaky(i dont mean that as a negative thing) and so you dont have to blaze too much. a former team-member has played tourneys with a spyder(no e-spyder) but he did some kind of trigger-job on it and i bet it made up to 8 or 9 balls(it was fast as **** for a spyder).covermen and mid-players on novice level sup-air tourneys need to shoot lot of paint according to the modern playing style. but i think if you are playing front its more important to be a good snap-shooter. i really dont know how fast i shoot with my imp but i guess it must be something between 9 and 12 shots per second(which is slow, i guess) but i never outshot my ricochet which is said to feed 13 balls. im playing mid or front and i had some problems whe i tried to shoot people on the run cause they managed to run through the stream of paint that i laid in front of the bunker they tried to reach. for this, i think shooting fast becomes important. so, as i said, fast shooting is necessary when you play lot of tourneys. but if you are playing twice a month as local walk on, then 6 bps is enough for you, depending on your style of playing. . i am a lousy fastshooter but i play the milleniums...so, it depends on what you want to do.

If you think about it, it only takes one shot per player to get them out (or two if they're naughty! ) and therefore you need a maximum of ten shots. However, unless you are some sort of Jedi, or a member of the SAS (and even then...) then its unlikely that this will ever come about. However it is still the fact that that is what its possible. The next thing is moving. If the next team are sticking out, and you can move to a good spot then you can shoot them out. If they are running then you might be able to track them. So in the end, no you dont have to be fast, but....

If you get chance to shoot someone and can get off 4 balls before they pop in, rather than 2, the chances of all the balls bouncing is a lot slimmer, and so that pays off. Also if you are a back player, or are dealing down suppresive fire, then it can be important that you fire faster, but not that much. In the end, I have tried to practice shooting faster, but for me, there are very few times in a game when I get the chance to just stand there and pummel a barricade.

You dont need to be able to shoot fast, I play front and hardly ever use more than a hopper load, the rest of my team would have you belive that I'm tight or just bloody lazy but this is not true. I just pick my targets well.

that maybe
but what about your back players, they need to put out strings of paint,to close down running lanes, and cover your ass, while your picking your targets well;)

Tournament paintball these days is all about fire-power mate, if your team is absolutly houndin the opposition with paint it gives them very little options.

Where as if sum is shootin 6bps at you it s rather easy to get through it and move, where as if sum1 is posted up on ur ass and handin out the 18bps style you aint gettin out of there like!!!

Tourney paint is all about firepower and accurate shooting Inferno players seem to go out each game with about 500 paint win and mostly come back with at least a pot each. I remember one team winning thier division and they used under 3 boxes of paint all day. Cannot be down to just rate of fire.

I would say...

... that it depends what position you play, for example, I probable manage a measly 5 bps from my wonderful Spyder (when it isn't going down on me) but I play front. My back guys, well one of them gets about 20 bps, and another claims 65 bps (but its more like 16). It would make sense for your back players to be laying down more paint than the fronts thus making it less important for a front to fire fast than a back....
.... having said that however, if your fronts can fire as fast as your backs surely you have an advantage... the faster the better???

You don't HAVE to shoot fast, but it has to be an advantage surely? Its a bit like running fast, if you can it helps! :D

just a thought though...if your laying down a string of paint at 6 bps, is it really that much less effective than laying down a string at 18 bps?
