ir3 question

i just bought my first ir3, a minted one that i got for a bloody bargain,
now i have been looking through the classifieds and have seen ir3's with "mem 6" whats the diff? mine has mem2 when i switch it on? is it newer faster software?
can i upgrade my markers software? how? and is there any real advantage?

i think mem 4 is the board with the opto trigger - urs will probably have a micro switch trigger on it

Yup mem 6 is the latest software for the IR3... I know you can upgrade from Mem4 to mem6, but not sure if you can from mem2. Give Frazer at WDP a bell and I'm sure he will help you out

The Mem6 cops2 are a lot more configurable (is that a word!!) than the previous software releases

You can't upgrade a Mem2 board to a Mem6 without putting in the opto trigger board

You also get Cops2 when you upgrade.

Basically the difference between a Mem2 - 3 and a Mem4 - 6 is the opto trigger (no microswitch in the trigger) and the upgraded Cops programme (higher rate of fire and more adjustable)

Speak to Frazer at WDP in Birmingham or John or Chris at LPS and they will upgrade it for you, it takes about 15mins and costs about £110/120 quid.

thanks for the help lads,

i will try a mem 6 out before i go spending more money, want to see if its any betta! can only hit 14 bps anyhow so i dont think the opto trigger can help my arthritic trigger finger any!

Is the updated version of the Cops detection software (Cops being your Crystal Operated Paint Sensor), the thing that stops you chopping paint

Cops 2 is a lot more reliable and has a higher degree of user configuration than the initial version... well worth geting in my opinion.

i believe the mem 6 also sorts out a few bugs that the mem 4 board had. what they are not quite sure

You will need to send Frazer your old board and £100 and he will send you a new mem 6 board.

Also when you come to resell, people want mem6 and cops2.

I also beleive it is harder to burn out the board with an opto switch.

wonder if the angel tech at the next 2k3 event will have one to fit? do you know if i will have to change the actual trigger so i can use the opto system, just keeping an eye on expenses cos her indoors will be wanting more shoes if i go an do this

Probably won't have a spare board to swap. You're gonna have to send to WDP.

Simple, unplug 4 connections at top of board, unscrew board and send to WDP. No new trigger , no new bits needed. Will have to set up trigger again though.

I also picked up a mem 2 at a bargain price. Going to send the board off next week and take the opportunity to replace the trigger with a cobra blade trigger.
