IR3 good or bad ? !

I personally liked it. The grip and trigger configuration was what impressed me the most, as it does everything it's said to do. I didn't get inside it to adjust the trigger, but I'm sure I could have come up with something totally weird but ultra-overshootable in just a short while. I LOVE IT! I have DEFINATELY got to see if I can start getting overtime hours so I can save up for one as soon as possible!

Having held it and firing just about ten shots out :) i suppose i can't say much but just from holding it you get in a lot tighter than you could with a .45 grip frame. Also the trigger set up is sweet on the innermost setting when you can pull the trigger down. And also you don't get cramp with your trigger hand which i like. :)

When I heard that Adrenalin won't be doing an IR3 and that they may not be churning out Angels again, it disturbed me though and got me thinking. Is or was WDP tired of hearing about their markers until they got in someone else's hands "Well, yeah it's an Angel and it's great but it's not an Eclipse, Cobra, Dark, Adrenalin, which that dude over there has and it's better...?" Did they really want to take out all the possibilities of improvement in it to keep from hearing that? It's hard to bill a product as "The most advanced in the world" when it rolls out of their factory and gets advancements after that which people undoubtedly acknowledge as giving it something it didn't have before then.

Certainly Worr thought so with theirs when they put out the STO and then the 2000, with some reluctance apparently, in acknowledgment that someone was building what they built but better and that they weren't seeing much of the money that was being put into it. Rather lamely, they sued over it and justifiably lost. They were beaten and didn't like it one bit. They're still trying to catch up, and these days putting forth competitive effort that really has produced Cockers worth considering over the competition. Still, however, the other so called (and I own one) SuperCockers that use few WGP parts rule the roost and beat out any efforts of others to stifle them. This competition has produced excellent guns that will still keep rolling out strong and if it's possible will still get better in spite of a handful of people's wish that they didn't exist.

The fear though is that WDP might have gone too far in improving the Angel and could have taken too much away from the thriving aftermarket businesses that give much towards the sales of the Angel that perhaps might not have existed were they not there. I'm not a WPD tech (yet) so I can't say with complete knowledge that there aren't things inside and out that can be reworked to keep alive the quest for the ultimate Angel. I certainly hope there are.

good points Onion

But most of what Adrenalin, Warped, Cobra, etc. did to the LCD were cosmetic differences that could still be done to the IR3 just as easily. No real performance changes were made after the angels left WDP's hands. So i think WDP can still take pride and complete and total credit for the unbelievable success of the LED and LCD.
Because everyone else was just adding paint to the color by number that WDP laid out.

Just my opinion

The cosmetic differences that you see on various Non-WDP Angels are all done by WDP then sent to the "makers" although the little non-threaded holes you find on the Angel are the standard holding/fixing points for a C&C machine so in theory you could do it yourself...the reason I know this was a conversation with a maker of a so called "custom" Angel and a potential customer......me !!, cos it was shown to me that a certain part of the carving should have been different and now it was brought to my attention I can see it doesn't flow through with the rest of the design. aftermarket bolt-on goodies will always be around other than the replacement electronics that was installed in the LED, all of the "performance" parts do......um well still thinking, ah got it look shiney !! and I am just as guilty as the rest of the people out there I have three bolt on parts that do nothing to performance but look good. The first thing most people are gonna do to the IR3 I guess will be to lose the bottom half of the trigger guard cos that does look ugly (my opinion). Imatation is said to be the greatest form of flattery so what do WDP care if people change things on their Angels, at least they don't seem to say you must not do this/do that or your warranty is void, which I personally think is really good to have that kind of support from a maker. Why does a maker bring out new models? well they have to keep one step ahead (infrared, gated feed) or at least stay alongside the other makers (Impulse Vision, COPS) or just plain improve the product (sealed electronics, smaller 14 way)(grip frame?) It is nothing more than natural progression WDP will next bring out ??? or maybe they will look at someone elses aftermarket bolt-on goodie and include it in the IR4, no maker can stand still and decide what they have made is the best ever, they have to try things and see how it develops, who knows maybe the volume that they are hoping to sell won't be reached and so the IR4 will arrive sooner and better than ever. Think about when Ford made the Sierra it looked like a jelly mold and the press and people were not decided and the car it replaced (the Cortina) was a lot cheaper, but how many car makers have angular designs that they still make...none! It is all jelly molds now so perhaps WDP is so far ahead we just aren't ready for it ?
